Hello. New member with dreams of making it to Africa. New to the forum and new to large rifles. I purchased my first dangerous game rifle, a CZ 550 in 375 H&H earlier today. Hoping to put in a lot of range reps and get either a lion or a buff within the next couple years. I've been a lurker for a few months now, soaking up knowledge here and looking forward to doing some more of the same. Seems like a great community you guys have built here.

Hello and welcome to the forum! I am new too and loving it so far. Such a great community. I’m sure you will learn everything you need to know about hunting in Africa. AND you will LOVE Africa once you get there. Just be prepared, once will never be enough!

Glad you joined the site. Always exciting to unbox a new rifle especially when you have big dreams ahead of it!

Welcome aboard!

Hello Hall,

Khomas Highland Hunting Safaris of Namibia, welcomes you to the greatest forum on earth.
Have a peep at our web site when you have a spare moment.

In terms of global species, the .375 H&H is the best general use hunting cartridge.
It is perhaps a little light for elephant and a bit too much for California black tail deer.
However, it will bag them and everything in between, with the right bullet, in the right spot.
Plus, ammunition availability, almost anywhere that hunting is common, will be easier I find than many other calibers.

In the case of buffalo specifically, I recommend the Swift A-Frame, 300 grains.
Last but not least, the CZ 550 is a notoriously accurate rifle.
I predict you will be delighted with yours.

Best Regards,
Velo Dog.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
