Hi All. My name is Dan and I'm from Boise Idaho. So glad I found this site. What a wealth of information and a bunch of great people. I've enjoyed reading a number of posts and am proud to be amongst you.
I'm heading to Africa for the first time in August and September of 2015 with a good buddy of mine. His second trip. We will be hunting plains game for 14 days in SA with Jean-Louis from Numzaan Safaris. After that I'm tagging along on my buddies 10 day Cape Buffalo hunt in Zimbabwe with Jean-Louis and Terry Fenn with Chinanga Safaris. I'll be running the camera :-) Been waiting 46 years for this! Can't wait :-)
Good hunting!
Dan

gday dan welcome to AH , enjoy the site
46 years , you a one paitent man ,fella .

Hi and welcome, all of the best for your hunt! Be sure to post some pics!

Make sure you take lots of pictures and come back here and share that hunt report.

Good luck.

Welcome to AH Dan! You will have a great time in Africa!

Hi Dan, The potato land king

Welcome to AH :)

I am sure you will have a great time in Africa in '15. :D

something to think about! :cautious:

What do you plan to do with your rifle after your safari and when you travel from South Africa to Zimbabwe? These dates will be covered in your letter of invite.

In Zimbabwe you will be a visiting tourist vs being a hunter... Tourist do not need a letter of invite, where a hunter will need a letter of invite from the PH or outfitter. With out a letter of invite you will have issues at customs. Plus, i am not sure you will be able to get a letter of invite just to bring your rifle into the country and not be on safari. Therefore, I am not sure you will be able to bring your rifle into Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe customs also goes over the letter of invite at customs

Plus you will not be able to leave your rifle in South Africa. Your SA-520 is only good for the time that you have a SA invite. Plus, you have to take your rifle when you leave the country. SA monitors this closely.

It appears that you will need to check on that. I do not want to see you get in trouble.

Welcome to AH, Dan, wish you the best in your hunt !

Welcome to AH Dan! Dan while in Zim go ahead and add a Buff to your list. Have fun and tell us all about it when you get back.

Welcome to AH, Dan!

Howdy!!!

Adding a Buff does seem to be the sensible thing, as opposed to worrying about what to do with that rifle.... Paperwork and all... ;)

Welcome Dan! I used to call Pocatello home, miss Idaho badly.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. And thank you James for the heads up on the rifle/travel issue to Zim from SA. I will bring the subject up with Jean-Louis and make sure we get it worked out. Worst case scenario I may just have to borrow a rifle from him rather than take my own to SA.
However ;-)
The little hunting devil sitting on my shoulder whispering in my ear is saying the same thing you guys have said :sneaky: I knew joining this forum was going to have a negative effect on my bank account
If I can make it happen financially I hope to add either a tuskless elephant or a Buff cow in Zim. That would be the sensible answer to the dilemma, right?

………………..

There is always a minor downside to getting onto AH.

Welcome Dan, looking forward to a report on your hunt. No matter what you decide regarding the rifle and critters, sounds like you are destined to have a great trip!

Welcome Dan, you are surely going to enjoy this site! Good luck with all the planning and countdown to the safari of a lifetime. Wish you all the best!!! (y)

Welcome!(y)
