Ethnic cleansing, South Africa says the quiet part out loud

On the reparations for slavery, I don’t see how taking money from people that never owned slaves and giving it to people that never were slaves is a good thing and it is totally counterproductive .
I’m all for reparations!
My grandfather’s grandfather volunteered to fight for the Union, was captured and weighed about 80lbs when he was finally released at the end of the war.
I’ll wait as long as it takes for the descendants of the freed slaves to hand over those reparation dollars…

So to answer your question, colonialism did have some negative impacts on Asia & Africa (also some positive impacts). But the era of colonialism is long gone.
Very thought provoking post as usual Habib.

I will disagree with the one point quoted above. The Chinese are on a very active and aggressive campaign globally, in some areas more than others. But, they clearly appear to have an appetite to be a global level player coupled with ambition, ruthlessness, and growing military power.

When I was in Tanzania, an older Masai gentleman I was chatting with commented that he wished the Brits would come back and in be in charge. He said the Brits gave them jobs, helped them produce food, drilled water wells, built schools and helped provide medical care, especially for their children. He said now the Chinese are moving in, bring their own workers from China, do nothing to help the locals, and destroy everything they touch.

Doubt he will make the nightly news coverage, but that is the reality on the ground from someone living there.

Thank you for sharing an excellent post as usual Habib.

No argument there, @Tex .416

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I still refuse to believe that the Chinese Virus COVID-19 fiasco WASN’T an intentional move by the Chinese to economically slow down other nations. If you think about it, you could either interpret it as:
a) A viral outbreak

Or

b) A carefully designed form of germ warfare

I forgot how insane Canada is. Did you do something wrong to them yourself? Back to RSA, a lot of whites have left since apartheid ended. Is their former home going to pursue reparations against them? How’s that work? And, if not, how’s that “fair” to the remaining whites in RSA? See how ridiculous it gets
It's not insane, it's how the legal systems work including every democratic country in the world.

When the government screws up the citizens pay for it through their taxes. Let's say the government in your country accidently screws up your front lawn with one of their trucks. You sue the government who pays you damages. That money comes from the citizens through their taxes if it is not an insured loss. Very basic stuff.

Same thing in Canada. When the federal government scooped up thousands of indigenous kids and sent them to residential schools run by pedos who raped the kids,, the kids sue the government and get compensation. At the end of the day that money comes from me the taxpayer, not out of thin air.

If the whites profited from an unjust system, why should they not have to disgorge some of their profits? That is an equitable remedy legally available in every functioning democracy I am famaliar with.

I suggest to read the book “The Bell Curve.”
I read it and the many many books and articles that tear it to shreds. It is fully discredited now on just about every level by every reasonable scientist.

It is, in hindsight, racist claptrap. Not too far from the Protocols of Zion.

Reparations for slavery are a totally different kettle of fish, and to my mind not viable.

In North America, most legals claims die with the victim and you cannot be "born into" a claim. That puts a practical end to the chain.

RSA will be drained for white brain power..med. doctors, engineers etc. see no future in black racist RSA. We have very competent south african engineers working in our domestic oil industry in Norway..(ex. Sasol employees).

White south africans are very velcome in the US and Europe..Canada and Australia..

It is insane. How do you decide what profits are a direct result of that unjust system? Equitable.. A woke buzzword. Your mindset is behind just about every problem the West has at the moment.

I like watching Anthony Bourdain’s show (RIP) No Reservations. He was in the DRC and a man told him the exact same thing about the Belgians. Bourdain was a lefty and allowed in his narration that he couldn’t understand that view. How anyone can actually visit the DRC and not realize that colonialism was better is beyond me. The Belgians weren’t perfect but they were better than King Leopold and better than what has been happening there since they left. That’s the leftist mindset though. Reality doesn’t matter, only ideology. First world problems.

Could be both. But, my way of thinking is, you don't do such action unless you can predict the consequences with high certainty.
And in my opinion, total global lockdown as a measure to control pandemic was entirely not predictable. This eliminates option B.

This does not mean that virus was not man made. It could be, but in any case, accidental or deliberate release caused unpredicted consequences.

Very sensible way of thinking, Mark. I think that the virus WAS engineered, but the Chinese didn’t entirely foresee that it would spin out of control the way that it did.

Apartheid ended THIRTY YEARS AGO. Many black South Africans never experienced it, half the population!! In an earlier post you said it’s not practical for someone to be born into a claim.. So what’s the deal? @RLD

Very ugly language. No surprise.

This is possible.

I am surprised that this worldly, distinguished crowd missed this… The socialism that is inherent to sub-Saharan African tribal structure is responsible for post-colonial countries going to carp. There, the hereditary Chief controls nearly everything away from major cities. The Chief can even control who one can marry. Distribution of tribal assets is controlled by the Chief. Pure and simple socialism. Villages without wells may have Chiefs with fairly new vehicles for their “official” duties.

After a thousand or more years of the above described form of government, is it no wonder that Africa is so corrupt. The newly elected political chiefs still control the distribution of wealth. This system has other effects on the people. The people may be intelligent but that’s where it ends. Applying that intelligence to planning their lives and making daily decisions is heavily influenced by the culture they were raised in, socialism. Unfortunately, in modern western countries many otherwise intelligent believe that lefty leaders will make the world a better place. How are our alter-liberal peers any different than common native (predominantly black) African peoples who believe their new class of leaders?

Let’s face it, we are who we are due to nature and nurture. Nature’s genetics give us more or less intelligence, strength, height, beauty, and part of our personalities. Why are all the men of certain families all very quick to anger? Part of that angry disposition may be genetic but much is reinforced by nurturing during childhood through adulthood.

Consider the above applied to those born into academic families. Children of college professors or very well educated parents probably have better opportunities to develop good study habits than those born into high school dropout, single parent households. With mom working overtime most days, who will or even can mentor the children in how to study and pursuing educations?

Now, think about how much financial and modern government nurturing could native Africans born into poor families receive? We see the same thing occurring in most of the USA’s large cities. The poor inner city residents have nothing but continue to vote for rich democrat party politicians. The modern welfare plantation funded by welfare from the government gives the recipiants little reason to work hard to escape that life.

Apartheid was wrong, as was slavery, government segregation, racial preferences, and so on. When governments change and newly elected fast talking do-nothings fire all the former managers and hire unskilled cronies to manage, why is anyone surprised that those countries become far worse economically for the people than the former repressive governments?

I think that culture has more to do with a society’s advancement than does their genetics.

And do you say the colonial period has no impact on those places currently?
Nobody is claiming no impact. They are claiming that those who whine about the lingering effects of Colonialism need to look at their own behavior.

It's fraudulent to act as if everything that happened generations before you were born are impacting you now, and that you have no alternative moral course.

What's worse, it's used as an excuse to continue racist and reprehensible behavior on the part of entire people groups.

When you have very clearly racist groups that already commit murder, why in the World would you reward them by giving them millions in cash and prizes, and telling them they are right?

By doing this, you are very clearly promoting, and financially rewarding racism.

Yep. Culture is the problem. Time and again the “inferior genetics” argument has been disproven.

Our nearly 250 year old American experiment shows that if the culture is “good” then anyone can succeed. No matter the color of their skin or what tribe they’re from.

I agree with this but it doesn’t stop people in power from trying!

It's a load of fkn bullshit....as what RLD is spouting....simple.....a lot of countries at independence were left with fully functional infra structure.....which for some reason didn't last ......certain countries decided to nationalise everything....that worked really well....and yeah just about every country....different peoples/tribes whatever you want to call them all around the world have been taking over land, killing and enslaving the defeated occupants....so people need to cut the bullshit about reparations and blaming people/races for historical events.....they are just money wanting freeloaders.....leading up to the first elections in decades here after independence when the country had been driven into the ground....we were hunting in West zambezi and the appy was sent out to different villages to ask about lions...he found an old guy in one village sitting under a tree...he got chatting and asked who do yiu want to win the election?...the old guy said I want the British back to run it...everything worked then.....
