Yes, at least two modern Winchester CRF "Classic" models that I assisted others to obtain replacement extractors.

I ask my old gunsmith about this. He stated that he had replaced extractors on Classic CRF M70s but never on a Pre-64, a M98 Mauser, or P14 or 17. After learning that, I had him fit a P17 extractor to my custom Classic M70 416 Rem. No sense taking chances with a dangerous game rifle.

It’s a minor but valid variable, tanks. As is the balance of the gun, and even the weight or simply the flexibility of the recoil pad. Putting them all together, it’s “stacking tolerances”. One of the first things a good load developer will tell you if they are loading for your double, or if they are re-regulating the wedge, is that your shooting of the gun may not reproduce their results. This could be by your size, how tightly you hold the gun, how much you honor or fight muzzle rise, etc.

They are an art, not a science. Hence, CNC cannot solve the regulation by throwing math at the problems of regulation.

These points are very true . I have DRs which I shoot and let very experienced friends use . And similarly I use theirs . We will all consistently hit different points on a target . Not by large degrees but enough to be notable .

This is a good thread on DRs . I load my own ammo so can do a lot of tweaking . In my opinion if you own a DR you should also own a chronograph . Knowing the bullet speed is crucial to finding a load which regulates . Shooters also need to understand that published ballistic performance and real world performance are 2 different things .

I can get ammo for my .500 NE pretty easily as it is regulated with Hornady and most PH's doubles are regulated with the same ammo.

Also, I have a red dot on my double. Worst case it becomes a single shot and I have not needed more than one shot during the last several hunts for elephant and buffalo.

The second part is what I was thinking. Worst case scenario, use it as a single shot.
I know it’s not why someone buys a double but I feel that worst case scenario you can use different ammo and either site it in for that and make a note of where the second shot will go (aim 8 inches to the left on the second shot) or just have them a couple of inches apart if it’s not too bad.

I’d personally rather use my double as a single shot than borrow someone else’s gun. Again though, it’s not ideal haha.

It’s why I like the idea of a 375 or 416 as a plains game gun though. You CAN use it as your back up on DG where as a 300 win mag can’t be your back up.

Well, I think my last activity was sometime in 2016, so that has definitely been a minute. I seem to recall a post/commentary where he said he was 72yo in 2009 ..... 2017 would put him at 80. His knowledge certainly leveled me up, and I certainly enjoyed the interactions I had on this platform with him.
