I'm planning a return trip in September 2027. Primary species is Buffalo, with plains game as an option if the buff hunt wraps up early. My timing is flexible. I've already had conversations with one of the site sponsors and the PH that I hunted with on prior trips but thought I'd see what offers are out there. My list of preferences is below.

  • Pick up/drop of at JNB. Camp within driving distance. Other locations are not under consideration due to limited travel time availability on my end.
  • 6-8 days hunting.
  • Small camp. I don't expect to be the only one in camp, but don't want a large camp/lodge with multiple large parties. I prefer a quiet, more personal experience.
  • Large enough property for a true tracking or walk and stalk hunt. I do understand that driving and looking for game can be a big part of these hunts but am not interested in jumping off of the truck and shooting an animal.
  • A large population with a good opportunity at a mature, hard bossed bull. I don't need the biggest trophy in SA.
  • Plains game options. Warthog has eluded me on my three previous trips so a good population of these would be a good bonus.
  • Open communication from the outfitter. I'd like realistic feedback on what to expect, answers to the hundreds of questions I will probably ask, and good references.
  • If my 9.3x74r is legal on the concession and acceptable to the PH, that is a big plus!

I'm not in a hurry to book. Hopefully airline prices will come back to reality by then! Thanks in advance for your replies!

I can Highly recommend Tsala Hunting Safaris! I will be leaving on June 1st for my second Buffalo hunt with them!

Get a hold of Conrad at Mpeti Safaris in KZN. They are a site sponsor here. Had a great time and fun, successful hunt for buffalo last June. And plenty of plains game and some warthogs on the very large property that they hunt.

Dear Sir
Have you considered the Greater Kruger, totally free range, massive Buffalo population. Small intimate tented camp, and you will be the only one there. 4.5 hours drive from OR tambo.
Give me a buzz if you are interested, + 27 83 461 2161, info@spearsafaris.com.

Hi,

We are located in the Limpopo region, about 5h30 driving from Johannesburg airport (JNB). We specialize in buffalo hunting, with large areas dedicated to true walk-and-stalk and tracking hunts. Of course, we also have many plains game species available, including plenty of warthogs.

Before going further, would that driving distance work for you?

Best,
Orso

Yes, that location is great. I have hunted plains game in that region.
