A Video Of A Royal Bengal Tiger Shikar Using A Bow & Arrow

@Major Khan I too want to thank you for sharing this video. I thoroughly enjoyed it! And perhaps even more, I appreciate the history lesson. To hear your words of how things were prior to 1972, and then to see and feel how things are so different now is heart wrenching. I wrote a lot more about that and how it relates to current political situations, but decided to omit that, as I respect what @Skinnersblade said “Let us not spoil the mood of this wonderful video by discussing spineless leaders further.” Besides, that's a full conversation in itself!
I truly, sincerely, appreciate and value this contribution you've made. Thank you for this gift!

Major, that was an inspiring account of hunting in Old India. It looked like it is a beautiful country with a fascinating history. I was especially impressed by the fact the palace walls were 30 feet thick. That could withstand an attack from most anything and the spikes in the doors to repel elephants. Thank you for sharing. Pray tell us more.

Why thank you so much , Cam Moon .
It is my utmost privilege that you have enjoyed watching this video so much .
Entertainment purposes aside ... I shared this video with the intention of making all of our dear forum members understand exactly how happy we all used to be ... and how valuable and important shikar was to our culture . 1 renegade government come to power in 1972 and destroyed it all ... just to satisfy a retarded agenda .

It was absolutely beautiful ... was it not , New Boomer ? His Royal Excellence used to own a pre 64 Winchester Model 70 that was chambered in . 300 Holland & Holland magnum calibre ... which is the variant that I personally consider to be the Holy Grail of Winchester Model 70 bolt rifles .

Poton, excellent find! Thanks for sharing the video! I have seen Fred Bear’s video hunting a Kodiak bear, but never this one. I need to do more searching of YouTube I guess.
You guys experienced a grand period of time sadly now lost forever.

Poton, thanks for providing this video. During this same timeframe I was much more of a bowhunter than a rifle hunter. I practiced with a recurve bow two or three days every week for several hours at a time. I remember sharpening the broadheads by hand so that they shaved hair off your arms without "dragging." The razor blade inserts were called "cookie cutters." It was not at all surprising that Fred's arrow passed through the tiger. A sand bag is sufficient to stop a bullet fired from a 30-06 but it will not stop an arrow. These days I use a crossbow as I can no longer draw my Mathews compound bow.

It is my utmost privilege that you have enjoyed this video so much , Ridge Walker . I was hoping that someone else on African Hunting Forums might recognize Mr. Bear .

Thank you so much for this extremely educational piece of information , Shootist43 ! I myself am fairly illiterate about bow hunting. Kawshik's niece does enjoy bow hunting quite a bit , however ( alongside rifle hunting ) . I have only ever guided 1 client during my career ... who actually used a bow & arrow for hunting a royal Bengal tiger . No force on earth can ever make me do it again !
I do know that Mr. Bear used the steel from vehicular leaf springs to forge his own arrow barbs , for this shikar .

Major Khan,
Thanks so much for posting this great historical/hunting video! Like many here on AH, I too enjoy your historical hunting and cultural accounts of the bygone days of a simpler time when hunting adventures were a way of life.

The insight and comments are are more enlightening than the video! Thanks!

Major Sir
The funniest accusation that these people make about hunters is that apparently we are all impotent sadists who “ Enjoy killing innocent animals in an attempt to achieve sexual gratification “ !
Wait, Tiger hunting comes with sexual gratification? Sponsors, please PM me rate for your most romantic Royal Bengal Tiger hunt. Tks.

Don't know how I missed this post! Enjoyed it as I have the rest of your posts!

Tonight , I am going to share a very interesting video with our fellow members of African Hunting Forums .
In 1961 , an American gentle man by the name of Mr. Fred Bear had come to India . He was a special guest of his Royal Excellence , the Maharaja Of Bundi . Mr. Bear was a bow hunter . He preferred to hunt his quarry with a re curve bow & arrow . On this particular shikar ... he intended to take a male royal Bengal tiger with his bow & arrow .

While most people ( myself included ) would consider hunting a royal Bengal tiger with a bow & arrow to be a suicide mission ... Mr. Bear had proved that nothing is ever set in stone .

During the time that this video was made ... I had already commenced working in Allwyn Cooper Limited ( in Nagpur ) as a professional shikaree , so this film was very much reflective of my time .

I did not have the privilege to guide this gentle man , personally . However , this particular shikar had received a great deal of ( positive ) media attention in all the states of India at the time .

As I share this video ... I also do so with an extremely heavy heart . Look at the beautiful shikar culture and the way of life my ( birth ) country used to have . Shikar season lasted 8 months of the year and it was a large community oriented activity ... which kept everyone extremely happy .

Indira Gandhi and her delusional vegan , tree hugging , cow urine drinking , fundamental Hindu socialist government destroyed everything in 1972 . By passing the so called " Wild Life Protection Act - 1972 " ... they took this all away from us and made India a poacher's paradise . They also sealed the fate of India's wild life .

Also , take note of the way in which the American shikarees treat the Indian locals . I only see respect ... and nothing else. This was the actual way in which most of our Western clients would treat us , back in those days .
Unfortunately , after 1972 ... the minds of every Indian was indoctrinated against Caucasians . Suddenly , the American , European or Australian client shikarees coming to India .... were painted as " White Destroyers Of Nature & White Exploiters Of The People . "

Gandhi and her thugs took away the ancestral power , properties and fire arms of our Royal Excellences . They stripped them of their birth rights . Our Maharajas were reduced to nothing ... among society . Their crime ? That they were " Boot Lickers To White Oppressors " .

Therefore , I cannot help but feel sad and angry ... as I share this video .
Also look at some of the comments made by Indian people in the " comments section " of this video on " You Tube " . You can clearly see a deep and irrational racially biased hatred towards Westerners and the dearly deceased Mr. Bear ... just by looking at the comments . I honestly find it sickening how these people are proudly gloating about " Over filling Europe with more Indians than Europeans ... as a form of revenge " .

The reason why I have shared this video with all of my fellow forum members ... is because ( aside from entertainment purposes ) , I want you all to understand how valuable hunting and shikar was to our culture . And how , 1 renegade government permanently took it all away from us .
Due to the radically retarded manner in which all the youth of India have been indoctrinated against hunting and meat eating , ever since 1972 ... I have strong doubts that shikar may ever be permitted in India , ever again.

That is why I earnestly implore each and every single 1 of you . Do not let the anti hunters win . Ever . Even caving in , to 1 of their demands is a serious loss for the international hunting community . These anti hunting swines do not get placated . They merely get more aggressive in going after hunting . Do not ever let what happened to India ... happen to America , Canada , Europe , Africa and Australia .
I fear that Great Britain is already a lost cause . However , the rest of the world can still be saved . If we fight for it .

I sincerely hope that this video shall prove to be enjoyable .

My dear friend Ponton
Thank you for bringing back memories of my school days when we used to watch movies/newsreels on commonwealth countries.
I had forgotten the beauty and grandeur of that once magnificent country. The rewards of rubies to the young women dancers by the maharaja was truly humbling.
The mutual respect of the people and maharaja was good to see.
Watching the old tracker/Skinner ply his skills with nothing moe than a stone to sharpen his vast array of wonderful knives was sheer beauty.
The story by the narrator was a joy to listen to and added untold insight into the days of yore. I don't know if it was the film or not but the lack of poverty and the joy of the people was very much in evidence.
It was a fantastic adventure into the past that's still fondly remembered by many.
It is a cultural tragedy that one person can ruin such a beautiful country in such a short period of time. They should be held up to ridicule to the rest of the world as an example of how to completely ruin a country
Somethings may have not been that good in days gone by but compared to the filth and squalor you see on tv about India nowdays these would pale into insignificance.
My heart goes out to you and you fellow county men that were subjected to the vagrencies of one STUPID POWER HUNGRY PERSON and her indoctrination of a continent to believe in such stupidity and ideals.
I am glad you and your fellow shikars have found peace and contentment in your new country.
Your humble reader and friend
Bob Nelson

Major, thank you for sharing such a great video! It really transported me to a time I am sad to say we will never get back. Just like the golden age of African safaris, the great Shikars of India will always hold a revered place in the great tapestry that is hunting tradition. I feel incredibly privileged to have someone such as yourself here to share such a unique perspective on a time and practice that has been so maligned.
