Spike.t, it’s getting to where you need a lawyer just to figure out some of these tag applications.
I built up 6 points toward goat, sheep and moose, then lost them all by not applying one year! Ugh...irritating! Then built up 12-14 (3 points just to start) only to find it really makes no difference. A 14 year old boys dad had applied to get his 3 points to start, then the very next year at 14 he drew a goat tag. At 72 years old, I don’t see any more point in wasting my money applying. JMO and frustration!

I dropped out of the Colorado bonus point pool for sheep, goat, and moose a long time ago. A friend that started at the same time is still in it and like you he has more points than should be needed but sill does not draw any of the tags while watching those with under 10 points draw.

It is as I have said on other forums, if you want to hunt sheep, goats, or moose save you money and head north of the border. However if you are trying for the sheep slam you still have to play the games in the states that offer the desert bighorn and rocky mountain bighorn tags.
 
Spike.........considering the many different States, each with a different application process, and whether bonus or preference points, often differing by species even within the State, some over the counter tags for less desirable hunts, it is amazingly complex. My own state is divided into about 100 hunting units, many with different regulations, seasons, and application processes. Fish and Game departments across the USA are worried about lack of recruitment of new young hunters.......well, they need look no further than the myriad of complex regulations to see one deterrent. Anyway, For desert and Rocky Mtn bighorns, some tags are auctioned off yearly. Some hunts in Mexico or Canada can be purchased outright for desirable hunts. But the bottom line is, the process is always confusing.....and several good application services have flourished because of it. Anyway.....just drew a Utah deer tag on only my 23rd year of applying! 5 States, 71 total applications, and finally, a hit!!!.....FWB

What unit and hunt? I have hunted quiet a bit of Utah and know a few of the LE units quite well.
 
Jimp...I have never yet set a boot in this unit, and would appreciate any recommendations.....FWB

I hunted Book Cliffs for deer with a muzzleloader in 2016. The deer were concentrated on the rim then, though, and I never went south of the rim. A lot of deer in there. Would see 20 4x4s a day. Best of luck.
 
I live in CT. The gun laws are extremely restrictive and three "black" rifles I legally purchased are now classified as "ASSAULT RIFLES" even though one is camo with a fixed stock, 20" barrel, no sights and has a 10 round magazine. But we can hunt deer and take up to 6 per season, more in the south west corner of the state. For Moose, Bear and Caribou, I go to Newfoundland where the licenses are issued to the outfitter. Book a hunt and you have a license. You can even purchase multiple licenses for each specie. Great area, lots of game, high success ratios and reasonably priced. Going again in 2021.
 
Fwb-congrats on the tag. Book cliffs is a magical place for big game and upland birds. Make sure you spend some time Scouting in there during the heat of the elk rut and if you pass through the tiny town of “Helper” make sure you stop at groggs for a meal. Good luck!
 
Well the wife and I each drew a Saskatchewan mule deer tag! Now I have to wait until July to see if I pull a Pronghorn tag.
 
Struck out on Utah this year
 
My father in law drew a bull elk hunt in Oklahoma’s special southwest zone on his first try
 
I am not familiar with the system in the US, but in BC the way it works is there are two kinds of hunters. Those that win draws and those that don't. I belong to the latter group...

I need to stop in there again when I am through there. Back when I worked in that area we used to eat at the former restaurant that was there quite regularly. At the time it was called The Blue Collar.

Also on the way to the Book Cliffs is the town of Green River. Ray's Bar and Grill is also a must stop for a bite to eat. It is just off of the old highway right in the middle of town. The only problem is that you have to put up with Utah's rules for bars.
 
Drew muzzleloading tags for mule deer buck and either sex elk west of Rocky Mountain National Park. Both were second choice so I didn’t burn a preference point! Crazy!
 
Drew a Colorado mule deer tag . Might add an over the counter elk tag if i hear the migration started before i get there. Good luck to all who drew this year.
