Canadaboy,

I've been lucky enough to hunt eland in a number of places, but I think if I had to pick one spot it would be with Mokore Safaris on Coutada 9 in Mozambique. I've killed big eland in Zim, Botswana, Namibia and Cameroon but the sheer numbers in Coutada 9 makes it my first choice. Anybody I've referred there has taken an eland if they wanted one even if it was not their priority.

Tell the Mokore guys you want to track the eland and they'll be all smiles.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have been seriously considering Coutada 9 with Mokore for other game but didn’t realize the Eland hunting was that good!

Coutada 9 is Wonderland. It is without a doubt the best unfenced PG hunting in Southern Africa. 4 of the Spiral horns, 4 of the Tiny 10, Sable and the buffalo plus lion are very good also

I've now hunting for Eland in 2024 & 2026 in the Gaza province of Mozambique.

When they say you kill an elephant with your feet, I'll add that the same is true for free range Eland!

They are so nomadic. I've been on tracks both of these safaris for days before finally catching a break on each safari.

Simply wonderful majestic animals if you have the determination to be alert and walk all day sometimes for days!

The two animals below, made every painful step worthwhile!

The last pics represents a salty finish after 11 hour day of tracking before we caught up in 2024.

Everywhere you find them is a good place to track. Best places? Cameroon for Lord Derby, Namibia in the desert areas, Zim everywhere....

Many of you have already mentioned that Namibia can be a good choice. I’ve bagged two eland bulls there so far. As a very traditional hunter, I chose a large, unfenced farm where, with the help of a San guide, the eland bull was tracked from waterholes. The stalks were always very long. Just the right kind of thing for me. In Namibia many game farms are fenced and picking the right hunting location is more tricky nowadays.

I hunted on the farm "Omambondetal"

I want to put a plug in for Jamy Traut safaris in Namibia. A true gentleman and first class PH. My first eland was w Jamy and his crew after a long tracking and was everything and more than I could hope for. His main goal seems to be to make the client happy and to teach them. You won’t go wrong w Jamy. Fun to watch the trackers at work.

Botswana, Central Kalahari behind San trackers.

Very limited range overlap between eland and bush buck in Botswana… and no bush buck as far as I know of in Central Kalahari. Best to hunt eland with option, depending on opportunity, for some other PG like kudu, hartebeest, wildebeest, oryx, springbuck if in the Kalahari.

My best elands taken (so far) were in the Sealous Reserves of Tanzania.
I took this fair sized fellow with my 7x57mm Mauser and a 173Gr German RWS H-Mantel bullet to the heart-lung region.

Noah,
I might be interested in the 470 Woodleigh Softs if the price is right for the entire lot. Are you planning on going to the Tulsa Gunshow in November? If so, perhaps we could meet up.
