One more firearm...or are you done?

  • I'm all set, not even looking.

  • Always looking but not buying.

  • Maybe just one more, but I'm on the fence.

  • Still looking for "The One" that has eluded me.

  • I keep a "rainy day" fund in case something pops up I want.

  • I like trying new firearms and cartridges.

  • Give me the latest and greatest.

  • I need to buy another vault.

I'm not a collector or gun trader. That requires expertise I didn't have the time or interest to develop. I've been shooting the same 30-06 03A3 since I started hunting in 1964. Built a 404 two years ago and I may build another gun purely for the enjoyment (a losing proposition as an investment). I will sell it when finished. Anyone care to place an order? :D At age 73 it's time to start liquidating rather than accumulating.
Let's see the 404.

My LGS has a consignment section that I will browse from time to time. Not that I need it but the devil is tempting me. Savage Axis 2 in 223 in a Magpul Hunter Lite stock, 2 mags, softcase, and a Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10x40 for $625. Not that I need it but if my math is right that's something like a $1200ish package for the $625.

That's how I get most of my stuff because it's hard to pass a good deal.

As explained in the thread below, I am done with rifles. I also have shotguns for sporting clays, hunting pheasants, Argentinean doves and quail at a plantation. I might get a semi-auto 12 ga. for ducks and geese though, close to the next bird hunting season.

Every time I buy a gun I tell my wife it is the last one, but she's knows I am full of shit
My wife has become very knowledgable about firearms, to the point that she's figured out that the cost of the rifle is not the "cost of the rifle". Here's a sample of list of questions that she will go through...

What role with this new firearm fill?
Is this a cartridge we already have ammo for?
How much ammo do you want to get?
What optic do you plan on using?
Will that be a QD mount?
What about a sling, holster or any other gadget you can possibly attach to it?
What other kit could you possibly need to complete the ensemble.

She calls it gun math. :ROFLMAO:

When I built my "Monster Jeep" my wife asked, "Do I want to know how much you spent on that jeep?" I responded, "NO", and kept on walking. The next morning I found my laptop open to a picture of a Mercedes SL550, with a Happy Face and a list of dealers who have them in stock taped to the screen. We went car shopping.

So far, rifles equal shoes, bags, jackets - her version of simple math - 1 = 1.

I’m at the one in, one out stage. Looking to downsize and keep rifles and things I use in general.

However, have just bought a couple of rifles for my boys who both turned out to be L eye dominant and shoot L handed to my chagrin. A Rigby, Parkwest, or similar in a 40 cal of some description could follow me home one day. A couple of great options on here have come by that I’ve narrowly avoided purchasing, but I’m pretty set on a 416 and am looking for a 14.5 inch LOP. If I come across something like that I’ll probably buy it and then decide whether to replace my Blaser R8 with it.

My wife is much less practical than I am. She wants a full-size giraffe or crocodile mount for our living room. I keep thinking - man, that could pay for a lot of hunting or rifles…

My wife just asks "what is this going to sell for when you're dead?" and "what are you paying for it now?" She's gotten used to the fact that I like my toys to be good investments, and although she is not a gun person in the least, she'll at least use the two of those questions to celebrate good play-vestments (as I call them) with me.

I had a '81 CJ7 with a AMC 360, T18 transmission. 2" suspension lift with axel over spring conversion for a total of about 5". Custom dual Dana 60 reverse cut full-floating axels with 4-wheel disc brakes, unlocking hubs, 4.56 gears, ARB lockers and perches welded for the conversion and lift. AC compressor repurposed for on-board air with a 5 gallon tank. Warn 8247 on a custom bumper. 6-point custom cage with 5-point seats...MONEY PIT!!!

Too much to list. Sold it not long after getting married almost 30 years ago. I think some sort of drug addiction would have been less expensive than that CJ. I kept my mostly stock '93 YJ for about 15 years before giving it up to a family member who wanted it.

I dunno.....I hunt with all my rifles, but they are to me what shoes are to my wife. I'm now building a 300 Norma Mag with a stock I just bought from Fatback, while I'm waiting on a custom build from Kelbley rifles. After these I'm done.......til next time.

I have some inherited firearms which are sentimental but also enjoyable to use. Then there are some that are tools used to used to collect game, heavy on function, feel and performance.
But I am getting older and hunting opportunities starting to slow, kids getting older. So I’m looking at what can be handed down, kept in the family or sold outright.
I already have safe queens I need to move along, so no need to accumulate more-

I’m looking 70 in the face and don’t have any kids to leave the guns to. I decided a couple of years ago to do do a little downsizing. I did sell off three or four rifles and due to a physical issue have gotten rid of most of my handguns. However, during the same time frame I’ve added two barrels for my Blaser and made a purchase from Toby458’s Kitchen Gun Emporium. When I was at the LGS picking up that rifle, there was a #1 that had me drooling over it. I resisted but might not hold out much longer.

Let's see the 404.
I thought everyone had seen it ... a hundred times. :D Two years ago I posted videos of me cycling it. Could do it again if I can remember how. Posting videos is a bit of a hassle. It cycles flawlessly and smooth as glass. Puts bullets on top of each other at 50 yards.

This stock was used and consequently bolt handle fit to stock slot is not perfect. Below is the first stock I bought in the rough and finished. Nothing wrong with it. The used one was just prettier.

I have everything I need but I for sure am not done buying. Something always comes up that catches my attention. Specifically mauser's, Brno's, and the such. There's a couple on the wish list and if they come up then it's an excuse to buy. I also move other ones down the road to keep what speaks to me. For example I have a few as ranch/truck guns in 30-06, very little sentimental value to me but if I come across a 06 with nice wood and a good 98 action then I'll move some around.

I got my secret stash for a 9.3x62 , just have a couple manufacturers I would want
And one seems to have a stock cracking issue and the other two seems hard to find in the USA

Same.

To the original question I’m mostly done though. Ahh who am I kidding. I bought a 7x57 no.1 last year from here. Now I’m wanting a .416 rem mag or .416 rigby for the eventual buffalo or hopefully elephant hunt I plan on doing. I also want a bolt action 6mm ARC. I have an AR-15 chamber in 6mm ARC and I’m convinced that a bolt gun in that chambering must be better. Then I want a Benelli Lupo with the walnut stock in .30-06 because I like 22” barrels with a suppressor on the end.

I might have a problem. But a guys gotta have a hobby and at least the wife can sell them off after I kick the bucket and I’m only 36 years old so maybe I can enjoy them for awhile before that happens.

At 59 I still have a bucket list of firearms I hope to someday own. Firearms are very much sentimental to me, and I have a strong fondness for older guns. At times I stumble across things I didn't completely know I wanted, such as my most recent purchase - a 1949 Husqvarna 640 in .30-06. To me it is quite beautiful. I just took possession of it, and I can't wait to find the right scope and load, and I find myself giving thought to taking it to Africa someday.

I think maybe I got a later start in life on buying guns than some of you, and I am nowhere close to a downsizing stage in my firearms journey.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
