One more firearm...or are you done?

One more firearm...or are you done?

  • I'm all set, not even looking.

  • Always looking but not buying.

  • Maybe just one more, but I'm on the fence.

  • Still looking for "The One" that has eluded me.

  • I keep a "rainy day" fund in case something pops up I want.

  • I like trying new firearms and cartridges.

  • Give me the latest and greatest.

  • I need to buy another vault.

I resemble all these ;)

I quit buying guns 10 guns ago.

Paul

I lie to myself every day…

I tell myself that I’m set.. I have every caliber and configuration I could ever need…

And then I see something I like.. and I immediately start justifying the purchase anyway I can lol

I quit, then buy again, then quit, then buy again…I see a nice big bore or a Hagn single shot or high gloss checkered 9422 XTR or a mint 63 or a really understated elegant shotgun or custom rifle….or I go by the Parkwest booth and order something or I call Matt Roberts and build something…
And there are grade 7 Blaser’s with that thumb hole stock that was made for me…
I need a 12 step program…

Every time I buy a gun I tell my wife it is the last one, but she's knows I am full of shit

With proper planning, at least one will show up after I'm dead.

When I built my "Monster Jeep" my wife asked, "Do I want to know how much you spent on that jeep?" I responded, "NO", and kept on walking. The next morning I found my laptop open to a picture of a Mercedes SL550, with a Happy Face and a list of dealers who have them in stock taped to the screen. We went car shopping.

So far, rifles equal shoes, bags, jackets - her version of simple math - 1 = 1.

To paraphrase Mark Twain, Quit buying guns is easy, I know, I've done it hundreds of times..

At 59 I still have a bucket list of firearms I hope to someday own. Firearms are very much sentimental to me, and I have a strong fondness for older guns. At times I stumble across things I didn't completely know I wanted, such as my most recent purchase - a 1949 Husqvarna 640 in .30-06. To me it is quite beautiful. I just took possession of it, and I can't wait to find the right scope and load, and I find myself giving thought to taking it to Africa someday.

I think maybe I got a later start in life on buying guns than some of you, and I am nowhere close to a downsizing stage in my firearms journey.

Love this thread. Over the years I have at least culled out some guns to upgrade to "better" ones. I was a "never sell a gun guy" for the first 30 years and then shifted gears. Sell what I dont shoot (well, kinda) and refine the collection.

I still have so many guns I want to buy. Ironic thing is I have been renting guns from outifitters on like half my trips in the last few years, or more than half. It makes it so much easier and most of them have top quality stuff, better than mine in some cases.

That said. Saving up now to buy a Park West Arms 375H&H.

Great first world problems to solve.

Cheers

For myself, I really want a quarter bore. I have a small fund waiting to pull the trigger on a 257 Roberts, when one that strikes my fancy comes available.
My wife thinks I have adopted a “one in, one out” mentality, haha!
I have been thinking about selling a few off to go to Africa again I have a real nice 257 Roberts I could let go Pre 64 Winchester coyotes and deer the perfect set up

I can "SAY" I'm set, and I am somewhat content, but let's be honest: if I see a gun with vastly better wood or engraving on it, it's a done deal if it is at all within financial reach. I might sell what it replaced.

Then again, I have two stock blanks that need a new project...

@BeeMaa I think you need a new category: “I keep thinking I’m done, but never seem to be”

I find I keep getting guns to cover different niches, so a bit of a collector in that regard, but keep telling myself I need to stop and get rid of some since I don’t use what I have. The practical angel says liquidate and the collector devil says keep.

Now there are a few like the Hyme you helped me find which I kind of consider a work of art (the wood, the metal work, the history,…) so I will keep whether I use or not. And others which represent a dream of maybe getting to take somewhere at some point, I can get rid of these or the dream will die.

I got my secret stash for a 9.3x62 , just have a couple manufacturers I would want
And one seems to have a stock cracking issue and the other two seems hard to find in the USA
Just buy a Blaser R8. I wanted a 9.3x62 and the Blaser in that chambering proved to be the gateway drug into that money pit.

I highly recommend scratching the Robert’s itch.

I had a '81 CJ7 with a AMC 360, T18 transmission. 2" suspension lift with axel over spring conversion for a total of about 5". Custom dual Dana 60 reverse cut full-floating axels with 4-wheel disc brakes, unlocking hubs, 4.56 gears, ARB lockers and perches welded for the conversion and lift. AC compressor repurposed for on-board air with a 5 gallon tank. Warn 8247 on a custom bumper. 6-point custom cage with 5-point seats...MONEY PIT!!!

Too much to list. Sold it not long after getting married almost 30 years ago. I think some sort of drug addiction would have been less expensive than that CJ. I kept my mostly stock '93 YJ for about 15 years before giving it up to a family member who wanted it.
This started as a stock 1953 M38A1. Too many mods to list - but your welcome to drive it.

I think I'm all set now... I always look on the used gun sites but just as a hobby now, not to buy.
In my collection I have firearms that can handle everything from rabbits to elephant so I'm happy.

I also have an obscure, not so common rifle/ cartridge combo (425 Express) in my safe to keep me amused as well as some more common ones like the .308 and .300WM.

I'll never say never when it comes to buying more guns, but I can honestly say I'm content with what I have got...(y)

From a practical standpoint, I should be set. There’s nothing that flies, crawls, slithers, walks or swims (I have archery fishing tackle) that I am not armed for. So, I’m not looking. However it’s amazing how often I stumble across a firearm that I have never considered…sometimes never heard of. Then, finding one becomes a bit of an obsession. The new house I’m planning will have a walk-in safe.

I'll be turning 65 this year......I think I will be pretty much set until I go to my grave. There are a few firearms that I've coveted over the years, but at this stage of the game I think I'm set. In addition to the finances of buying the firearm, there is trying to find ammo for the thing, reloading dies, components, working up loads, etc. (at least in my case). There are a few guns out there that I thought would be "cool", but I never got: a Browning Hi-Power, a British SMLE, a .410 pump or SxS shotgun, and a Uberti 1866 or 1873 copy in .45LC.
Right now, I'd rather take that money and use it to go on some nice hunting trips.............

I have everything, for everything. No specific need for more.
I am resisting hard and denying myself without mercy the urge for collecting, in the moments when I get acute collecting fever.

But it may happen, in some future moment of weakness, to get colt python royal blue.

At age 73 it's time to start liquidating rather than accumulating.
I disagree- at age 77 I just purchased two Pigeon grade Browning Superposeds, one Marlin 1892 and have a bid on a Savage 1920 250-3000. What else is there to do with the money? the kids don't need it, everything we have is paid for. So I like guns and will continue to buy them particularly if they qualify for direct shipment to me via 03 FFL.

I think about rifles the way my golfing buddies think about irons/clubs. I'd like to have one for every possible scenario. I feel the same way about flyrods. That being said, I do have all those calibers and sizes and still get enamored and buy a gun now and then.

I am changing my goals though. It used to be that my mantra was, "the guy with the most guns at the end of his life wins" but I now have too many that I don't use. I may start a thinning project to sell 2 or 3 I don't shoot to buy one I would. Maybe. Or maybe not.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
Impala cull hunt for camp meat!
