No quarter bores? Oh, the humanity!
I have thought if I went back for trip #5 a 25-06 would come with for the lighter stuff. Klippie, springbok. Impala warthog, duiker and such. But it is trip #5, not 1.

.375H&H and .470NE

Since I primarily hunt DG in Africa, it is difficult for me to choose more than one cartridge. I chose the cartridge 460 Weatherby Magnum for the reasons I have mentioned before in many posts, by the way reasons that are not shared by most. Shooting PG is not much more difficult than game at home, and therefore I don't have a clearly preference for a particular smaller cartridge. For practical reasons, however, I would choose the cartridge 340 Weatherby Magnum.

As an owner of older hunting rifles, one also has, in addition to a favorite practical equipment, a traditional one, and as far as cartridges are concerned, the favorites would be in this case the 9,3x64 Brenneke and the 12,7x70 Schüler.

My .375 is my favourite rifle and I cannot envisage a trip without it. It works great on plains game and backs up the 458 Lott nicely for larger species.

With the time restraints when one is on safari, and the "one drop of blood = kill" rules, I think it may be a little "foolhardy" to use lighter cartridges.

I really like my 7x57, but would not take it to Africa.

IMO, you are better served with more power and deeper penetration.

On my 5 safaris I’ve used 5 different calibers, 375 Ruger, 7mm REM mag, 308Win, 30-06 Springfield and a 270Win. All did everything I asked of them from duiker to roan, buffalo to elephant.
Next trip I plan on taking a 338 Win mag and a 416 Rigby.
I can’t pick just 2.

In Africa, I've taken 6 animals with a .300 Win Mag., 2 with a .375 H&H, and 5 with a .416 Rigby.

If limited to 2, it would be the .375 and the .416.

I wish I could have gotten close enough to use my .470, but it just didn't happen.

I'm glad I had my scoped .416 Rigby for my last hunt.

The .300 Win Mag would have been fine for all PG.

When I was going on hunts I used a rigby 416 and a 300 win mag.....but also used to take a 12 bore and a Winchester 9422M as well.....2 rifle calibres now if going on same hunts would still be rigby 416....but would now take my m98 7x57 along with it....just love that calibre....but the 500 jeffery...300 win mag ...m12 30-06 and heym 9.3x62 would be pissed off me thinks ...

Short answer is that I used my 7mm RM on 2 African hunts, my .375 RUM on 2 hunts, and my .300 Wby on 3 hunts.

I took a 7mm RM for PG in the Limpopo Province of South Africa on my first African hunt.

My second African hunt was in Zimbabwe for Buffalo and PG where I used my .375 RUM, then back to several South African Provences for various PG animals where I used my .375 RUM and 7mm RM.

My third trip was to the Eastern Cape of South Africa where I just used my .375 RUM for all of the PG that I hunted there except I borrowed a .308 Win with FMJ bullets from my PH for my Cape Grysbok.

On my fourth African hunt I used my 300 Wby for PG in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.

My fifth African hunt was in Mozambique where I used my .300 Wby for my Leopard, and @BRICKBURN also used it for his Roosevelt Sable.

My sixth African hunt was also in Mozambique where I again used my .300 Wby for my Roosevelt Sable and some other PG animals.

Good morning,
Did you hunt w Leeuwkop at their ranch or in Zimbabwe? The ranch looks awesome, but I'll be in Zimbabwe for buffalo and whatever else we dig up.
What did you hunt for?
Vaccines?
What rifle did you use?
I feel like I need a good cotton safari shirt and an ammo belt to make the hunt feel right!
How often did you shoot prior to going?
Did you use sticks for shooting practice?
