I voted for the 375 H&H and 300WM but would rather have voted for the 300 H&H had it been on the list. I’m really enjoying my 300 H&H and it’s fast becoming one of my favorites.

I have to admit that for someone who does not reload, the 300 Win Mag is a better proposition from a convenience and ammo availability point of view.

Wow.....maybe the game for this poll should be divided into categories? If just sticking with two, then for me the .308 and the .375H&H provide the greatest latitude.

What's your favorite cartridge for hunting Africa?
This can be for hunting plains game and/or dangerous game under whatever circumstances you foresee using that cartridge under: the open country of the Kalahari, the thicker brush of the bushveld, the jungle of central Africa, the mountains of Ethiopia, whatever. Furthermore, in recognition of the fact that it's possible to bring multiple rifles on safari, you can select up to two cartridges in this poll. Visiting hunters, native Africans, and Professional Hunters are all welcome to respond.
I can only provide a maximum of 20 choices in the poll, so just reply if your preferred cartridge isn't listed.
@hed43
The one cartridge you missed that extremely versatile for plains game of any size is if course the 35 WHELEN. shoots flat for longer range (out to 400yds) where it still boasts over 2000fpe and over 4,000foe at the muzzle.
A variety of projectiles suitable for Africa from the 189gn TTSX thru to 310 guns of bone crushing oomph.
If'n and where legal could be used for cape Buffalo in a pinch if needed.
What's not to love.

That's just uncouth. Every hunter needs a wood quarter bore. My PH said the 25-06 loaded with a good 117gn is the perfect medicine for leopard.
Oeople that don't have a 25 just have no class.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

No quarter bores? Oh, the humanity!

I have thought if I went back for trip #5 a 25-06 would come with for the lighter stuff. Klippie, springbok. Impala warthog, duiker and such. But it is trip #5, not 1.
I agree. I shot a golden wildebeest, hartebeest and two blesbok with a .25-06, but I definitely wouldn't have used it on my first safari.

I've brought my own rifles on two hunts, the other three times I rented rifles. Both times I was very satisfied with my bolt action 9.3x62, and double .450-400 3".
