With the time restraints when one is on safari, and the "one drop of blood = kill" rules, I think it may be a little "foolhardy" to use lighter cartridges.

I really like my 7x57, but would not take it to Africa.

IMO, you are better served with more power and deeper penetration.
dead and more dead! Works everytime.

.....
My fifth African hunt was in Mozambique where I used my .300 Wby for my Leopard, and @BRICKBURN also used it for his Roosevelt Sable.
..........
Gorgeous rifle and incredibly accurate and effective. Thanks again for the single shot loan. :)

I used serval times the 9,5x66SE vom Hofe (comparable to the 375 Ruger) with 270gr A-Frames for (heavy) plains game. Absolute favorite!
Also the 9,3x64 is one of my favorite cartridges (used 2024 with the Degol 262gr bullet).
Last year for light plains game I have chosen the 28 Nosler, but for heavier game above 200kg I prefer lager diameters.

For dangerous game I used in Zimbabwe the 416 Ruger (400gr A-Frame and DGS), this year I will take the 450 Rigby to Caprivi.
The 378 Weatherby will be used next year...

For decade my 338 WM was my go to gun. I changed to the 7mm RM around 20 years ago and the 458 WM.
Suprized on the lower numbers with the 458 WM so many great bullets made today out of mono-metal. And really if your a handloader it can be loaded with some of the best bullets made right there with the 458 Lott

Any other pics?
Gets boring looking at the same few over and over and over... .
Better than having no pics, at all. Unlike some people on these forums (such as a self proclaimed white hunter extraordinaire who dedicates an entire article to a leopard slug gun yet doesn't actually have a single picture of himself with a leopard or ANY dangerous game except a few bushpigs)...

P.S: There IS an "Ignore" button which can easily be hit (if you find anybody's posts boring) rather than acting like that petty whining jackass in class whom nobody likes.

When I sent to Africa to hunt Cape Buffalo and Crocodile I bought a 375 H&H specifically for that trip. Prior to that for all plains game I use my 7mm RUM.

My two do all cartridges would be…um…
375 Ruger
300 WM
Wait then there is…
30-06
450-400 NE
458 WM
9.3X62
35 Wheelen
Well crap I guess I suffer from cartridge indecision.

I typically take my .338 Winchester and .416 Hoffman and find them to be a great combo for anything I may encounter. However, I also really like my .375 H&H every bit as much as either of the others.

Leaving the .338 off your poll is a major omission. You’d be surprised at how often it is used across Africa.

Two, but one not listed as a choice in poll.
Both are Win M 70 CRF.
416 Rem, 338-06

Do I need to post pics of dead animals to support choices? :):)

What's your favorite cartridge for hunting Africa?
This can be for hunting plains game and/or dangerous game under whatever circumstances you foresee using that cartridge under: the open country of the Kalahari, the thicker brush of the bushveld, the jungle of central Africa, the mountains of Ethiopia, whatever. Furthermore, in recognition of the fact that it's possible to bring multiple rifles on safari, you can select up to two cartridges in this poll. Visiting hunters, native Africans, and Professional Hunters are all welcome to respond.
I can only provide a maximum of 20 choices in the poll, so just reply if your preferred cartridge isn't listed.
I chose the .300 win Mag & .416 Rigby....both calibers worked so well for me on my first trip to Africa. All one shot kills, I used woodleigh 410 gr RNSP's in the .416 and 212 ELDX's in the .300, the 212's worked very well on plains game.

Interestingly my son used his .270 and shot speer 150 gr hot cors and they worked very well on wildebeest, blesbok & warthogs. An impressive bullet as well.
