The company that built the santanas was in Spain. They were building land rovers under licence. But when that agreement came to an end they continued developing the vehicle . They changed to iveco engines amongst other things....I had one and it was lot nicer than a land rover...faster more comfortable and more room in the cabin. So I am not sure what the person is going on about in that article....one of the 4x4 magazines years ago when doing their annual test on which off road vehicle was best were given a santana at last moment to include...it came as standard with no uprated tyres etc compared to the other factory vehicles....it won...so as said not sure what he is on about...no ..ended up totally different and developed on a different route to how landrover went....I think iveco bought the company and updated it...but then unfortunately stopped producing them....as I said far better than the landrover

Mine was the ps10 model....as this says they were better placed to identify the issues that land rovers had and rectify them...leading to them developing in a different direction

Counterfeit Defenders? Who would have guessed?

Google "Ineos Grenadier " - another company that makes "copies" of the Defender but by all accounts they appear to be very good vehicles . Seems like they started making look alike Defenders when LR stopped making them .
BMW turbo straight 6 and 8 speed automatic..........interesting.

Only just coming to market....you can go online and put down £2500 refundable deposit to get on order list...configurator is working....on their email list so keep getting the updates...choice of BMW petrol and diesel turbo engines specifically tuned for the grenadier...got a double cab coming as well....waiting to see what that's like...

I've kinda had my eye on a fully restored 1950 Dodge Power, modified to a 4 door. There's only two problems with it: I'm not crazy about the color or the outrageous price.

I’m actually very curious how it will turn out. So far they took the best of the Defender, the G-wagon, and the Wrangler, but designed from the ground up by a no limits engineering team paid by a billionaire for who this is a pet project. They might just be onto something.

I’ve been trying to get them to reach out to the hunting community too. But that seems a step too far for the moment.

I just learned about the Grenadier recently. I’m excited at the prospect, but they need a US sales and service presence before I spend $70k+ for a vehicle. Their factory video is impressive!

Some years ago I looked at the Defenders being put out by Arkonik. They looked nice and all but 110 is a model number, not a base price tag (in the thousands of $$), and that didn't count the assorted stuff required to get one to the US. If the price was cut in half and the car was fit? Maybe. But $110K too bookoo.

ETA: Ha, that was some years back. According to the Arkonik USA site, it's now $165K for a 110 and that's before I start adding stuff to it! Which you have to sign in and send info to Arkonik before you're even able to do that. How much is a Jeep wrangler these days...

Grenadier looks interesting, but they need a US partner to make a go of it with the service infrastructure needed in the States.

But if you are going old school ...............

Just saying

For parts and service, they will be working with Bosch, is that not a brand well represented in the US?

Any means of increasing the fuel efficiency of the FJ40 @Red Leg? Reason I’m asking is that here in Brussels, we start to get all kinds of CO2 limits and minimum fuel efficiency rules on cars to be used on a daily basis.

I really do like them, but they just do not seem the most economical option to go barrelling over the high way at 120km/h to the hunting fields.

My dear fellow, a gentleman doesn't barrel over highways to hunting fields, one sedately makes ground at a civillised pace.

By the way, the local police bought a huge number of Santanas when they first came out, not sure what variant they were. There are a good number still running around.
Then our National Parks brought in a whole lot of Land Rover kits around 1995 for local finishing off (minimal) and I managed to secure one, it was a standard 2.5 litre TD4. It wasn't great though and I replaced it with one from the next batch in 2001. This was a far better vehicle, it was a hybrid between the TD4 and the TD5 having the no electronics bog standard TD4 engine but the plactic fuel tank, uprated suspension and a factory fitted aircon and central locking. They were highly sought after because of the simplicity and reliability. It gave me no gyp at all and I sold it for what I paid two years prior to buy a new Land Cruiser 100.

They were not geared to be a fuel efficient form of transportation. My big F250 gets much better gas mileage. Nor would it pass any sort of emission control test. Fortunately, here it is not required to do so since it was never so equipped.

Had an excellent classifieds transaction with JoninCO. A truly honest and standup member. I wouldn't hesitate at all to deal with him again. Thanks, J!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx
