Good day

I'm searching for a load - 570gr Swift A frame,(500ne 3inch) cant find anything on the net, also no Load data available from Swift. Their handloading manual also not available in South Africa.

Please can anyone assist me, much appreciate.

I have many load manuals with this cartridge listed...although I’m not sure what powders are available to you in SA. Let me know and I can PM you any data I have.

Good day Theo.
Just a few days ago I contacted Swift since their website does not have the load data I was looking for. I ended up having a nice conversation with the owner of Swift who walked me through some of the finer points of hand loading Swift bullets.

You might want to call or email Swift. I am sure they will be happy to share their load data with you

Regards,

Hi Mr Frog Stealer, thank you very much for your reply.

In SA we do not have all the powders, bullets etc available. If one is lucky enough to find any you must use what is available.

I was fortunate enough to obtain Swift A frame 570gr but could find any data for said bullets. Powder available Hodgdon H4350, Alliant 15,17 & 19, Norma MRP, IMR 4350.

Currently using Perrigrime VRG3 with Somchem S 365 (103gr max load according to their tables) but only at 1950ft/s. It does not regulate with my VC 500 NE. The factory ammo used for regulation Hornady 570gr DGX, (not available in SA)

Would appreciate any advice.

Kind regards
Theo

I pulled apart a Federal A frame and it had 94.9 gr (safe to say 95) what looked like RL 15 in it. Hornaday solids have 104.9 gr (105) of what looks like H4350 in it.

In my 500, 570gr Barnes solids on top of 95 gr RL 15 goes 2143/2148 fps, which replicates the Hornady 570 gr solid load of 2139/2142 fps.

Theo,
I was running 100gr of S365 in front of the Woodleigh 570gr. I'm currently developing a load for the Swift A Frame.
I will revert back to you once I find something that is acceptable, but will keep a close eye on the thread.
Which double are you shooting out of?

Theo, where are you based in SA we have many shooter that shoot 500NE at our club BASA, Big Bore association of Southern Africa. If you are in Gauteng area why not join us for shoots and join us crazy addicted to recoil people.

I have 25 inch barrels on my Verney 500 NE. 92 grains of RL 15 with a 570 gn Swift A Frame gave me 2160 fps according to my chronograph.

FWIW I haven't chrono'd them yet but I put 510 gr CEB solids on top of 108 gr of RL 15 with less recoil and very tight groups. Was told they'd push 2400 fps.

Thank you jdemocko, will definitely make use of your data.
