Welcome!
welcome to AH.....I live near Kansas City
Welcome to the forum. I hunt quite a bit up around Paradise, KS and Concordia. Love it up there!
Welcome aboard.
My Kansas hunting has been at Sublette for pheasants. For many years, the Dallas Woods and Waters Club had an annual hunt there and we made the road trip up from Dallas in about 8 hours. Had great shooting and ate at a little cafe in town that always served calf fries.
Welcome Dtec! I hail from central/eastern KS originally and still get back up there for some hunting. I like to make it out to western KS for prairie dogs and pheasants a few times a year, so happy to have you around.
Welcome @dtec41 I have the good fortune of hunting just North of you, West of Garden City. Good mule deer, lots of quail especially since the drought broke. And starting to see more pheasants as I have been able to lower the coyote population a bit
I get through Liberal occasionally.
Hope you can make it to Africa sooner rather than later... I waited way too long myself, but have been trying to make up for that
"Must’ve been the cattleman cafe." It was the Cattleman!
Funny story there:
One year one of our group rode with some folks that stopped for beer and drank a good bit before reaching Sublette. Poor guy could not even walk, so another hunter and I carried him into the Cattleman with his arms around our shoulders. The hostess was concerned, but we told her he was disabled and could not walk in by himself. She was sympathetic and took us to a table in the farthest rightmost corner where we sat with a dozen or so hunters.
After a delicious appetizer of calf fries and then chicken fried steaks and dessert, we finally headed for the door.
When the hostess showed concern and surprise that our crippled friend could now walk, we told her it was the healing effect of the calf fries and departed with no small amount of laughter.
Unfortunately, he was assigned an upper bunk and it took two of us to get him into bed. Next morning he was OK and ready for breakfast.
dtec41, you just keep hanging in there and participating on AH. Sooner or later you will come to the conclusion
"that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." If you can, come to Kansas City for the local chapter of the SCI's hunting expo in February. It is a fun time. I time my travel from Michigan to KC to visit my son and his family to coincide with the show. You will have the opportunity to meet some like-minded folks, many of whom are farmers as well. Who knows, you may be able to put your 375 H&H to work quicker than you think!
P.S.This show has a website, check out the "Auction Hunts" as they become available.
Welcome! Was up in Greensburg a couple weeks ago for some pheasant hunting, beautiful area
Thank you Marius!Welcome to AH!
This is the only forum I belong to as well. We have differences of opinion to be sure, but as you said for the most part it is kept on a professional basis. By that I mean we don't put down the person while differing with his/her opinion. Jerome and or Brickburn have "black-balled, limited access and or removed" persons that do not comply with these expectations. We have fun with each other & even include an emoji or two, but none of it is personal.
