Your advice please

Here’s really small one I did recently for a small room I have. Top is small so u use a table off to the side for extra bench top use. I only use it when the garage is to hot in the summer months.

What priming tool do you guys use for the 470 N.E.?

Any tool that uses a press shellholder. I use a Hornady, but RCBS, Lyman etc all work. The Lee priming tool doesn’t have a large enough shellholder for most double cartridges.

I too question using one powder across the board. Each cartridge / rifle is an entity upon itself. Example: In my .375, a 300 gr Barnes gets it’s best accuracy and velocity from WW748 while a 300 go Swift with that powder shoots groups that look like a shotgun pattern.
For the .470, which I assume is a double, may not regulate or even shoot close to point of aim with one powder.
I get the best results with the .416 Ruger and 400 go Barnes and Swift’s using MR-2000.
Reloading bench: Mine is an old heavy desk. It seems like it is a vicious cycle... when I get it uncluttered, it some how magically reverts to cluttered.

2000 MR is really the best powder for the .416 Ruger. It is the only one I have found that even remotely comes close to the factory ballistics. I also just discovered that speer finally put out data for that cartridge and their 350 SP. I had guesstimated and I erred on the side of safety. The best I dared was to get about 2500-2550 fps out of it. Now that there is data, I see that 2000 MR can be used to drive that 350 grain bullet up over 2,700fps. That's nothing to sneeze at and would make one awesome lion, leopard or plains game load.

The Swift manual has data for the .416 Ruger.

Charlie, here are some examples of H4831sc from my Tikka 300 Win Mag. As you can see from the velocities they are not real fast, but they kill well and shoot flat enough for my use.
Haven’t used H4831 in my 375 H&H, but it should work fine using 300gr bullets.
I don’t have a 470 :(, but maybe I can use yours;) on my next buffalo.

I get terrific groups and velocity with 2000MR and my 9.3 shooting Hornady. Going to finally shoot some NABs this weekend (I've only had them on the shelf for 6 months)

Is 2000MR a relatively new powder? The reason I'm asking is that QuickLoad doesn't acknowledge its' existance, i.e. it is not listed as a powder option. It shows all the "Reloader" series. I just bought an update so hopefully it will be there.

It's been around since at least 2012 - it's in the Hornady #9 reloading manual. Also listed in Nosler #7.

Who makes the 2000MR?

I believe it is an Aliant powder. The full and I assume correct name is Power Pro 2000 MR. But I could be mistaken because it doesn't appear on any of my Burning Rate charts either.

Looks like you are correct sir

Ball powder, good for throwing charges and getting all over your reloading area.

It is Alliant. Western has it in their burn chart, but it's mis-labeled as 2000 LR. It's a skosh faster than Ramshot Big Game.

Charlie, this bench from Harbor Freight looks like a good start to a reloading bench. A friend has one used for shotgun reloading.

Also looking at the reloading area of Hodgdon’s website, H4350 looks like it should work well for 470 NE, 375 H&H and 300 Win Mag. They do not show 416 Ruger, but the 416 Remington should be similar and there are loads for it. They may show some in their annual magazine manual. I’ll check my most recent.

My 2018 Hodgdon, 49th Lyman and Swift do not show any 416 Ruger loads. The Woodleigh only shows 1 load using the 400 gr soft nose bullet and H4350. The Lee manual no 416 Ruger. The Hornady 9th edition has the 416 Ruger, but no H4350 loads. The Barnes website shows no 416 Ruger. The Nosler website shows the 416 Ruger, but no H4350 loads.
Amazing! Best of luck finding loads for the 416 Ruger! Maybe you should limit yourself to factory ammo initially on the 416 Ruger and just focus on the other three. That’s a lot to get started on anyway, IMO!

Thanks for all the intel guys! Keep it coming!
