Bas here. Never got to Africa- probably never will. But I truly enjoy all the topics covered and gleaning what I can from the ones who have "been there". Hunting stories of dangerous game and the hardware required to hunt these beasts have been a dream of mine since following Jack O'Conner's writings in the late 60's to present day experiences of the current stalwarts who live this lifestyle....Horn of the Hunter fans that carry-on traditions of years gone by. That about covers my intro, thanks to all.

bas,
welcome.

regarding hunting africa, it is surprisingly affordable to hunt plains game if your list is not too large. there are some great outfitters on this site that can probably make you an offer you can't refuse.

I thought the same.
Now I was once, planning again. It is not un-affordable today and it is not un-doable.
Dont deny yourself an African trip so easy.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome aboard Bas. As you read the reports and look at the photos the dream of hunting Africa will take seed, over time it (the dream) will be nourished and grow stronger. Sooner or later the truth will sink in and you will discover that there is no reason why you can't go, after all you deserve it. Every post you read will be further encouragement to take the plunge.

Welcome, Bas. Echo the comments of others. If you can afford a guided elk hunt, you can afford Africa.

Bob, never say can’t do it! Check out some of the hunts under DEALS AND OFFERS. There’s some in there I’m sure if you put a plan together that you can afford one. It is a wonderful experience to add to a bucket list!
Best of luck in getting there!

Thanks to all. Aside from health reasons, "champagne tastes/ beer budget" applies here. Had to retire early and rarely go afield even locally nowadays. Thanks again for encouragements and know that I look forward to follow and check this website daily .
Best regards, Bob

Welcome to the best sight about African Hunting

Bob, I don't know what health issues you have but I have a few myself. I can barely walk 200 yards and I'm going on my second African Safari in July at the age of 74. That trip is my 75 Birthday present. Don't count yourself out because you aren't a spry "young buck" anymore. What kind of hunting did you do in your younger years?

Never say never.
There are plenty of outfitters that can cater for hunters of all abilities.
Don't write yourself or a trip off just yet.

Welcome to the forum.
Thank you for your response and please know that I completely understand your message. Without going into further details about health issues, at this point I can't say that going to Africa would be a given regardless the amount of my bank account. Liken it to a professional athlete that has come to realize it's time to stop and let go of what was, just realistically embrace what is. Having said that, I still find myself immersed in the game and enjoy reading about it and watching the videos. An example could be, most males (given the option) watching a football game would truly rather be on the field with their chosen team than sitting on the couch cheering them to victory . Hope my ramblings make sense to you.

I wish you my best in your endeavors.

Bob
