Politics

You could put it that way.

In NJ. All handgun person-to-person sales must go through an FFL, in-state. The purchaser must have a valid (one-time use) handgun permit in possession.

The onerous part about NJ gun laws, other than the CCW restrictions, is the stupid single-use HG permit deal.
Don't forget the various ammo restrictions.

Washington DC is much worse though. One can't even have inoperable ammo.

I literally popped into this thread just to say how unbelievably happy I am he's been canceled. He is the picture of an insufferable Liberal, who does nothing but whine and moan, and is no longer funny.

I truly miss the days of politic-free late-night shows.
Agreed, on missing politics free shows.

I miss the days that Jimmy Kimmel hosted the man show, and the bleeding heart constantly offended persona he displays today is the complete opposite of when he hosted the man show.....

I added additional info to my post because I wasn't clear.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. We're like a solid 3-4, maybe. 1-2 would be like a DC or NY. 10 would be like a TX or MT.

Some things have gotten better. We have strong 2A associations here that file lots of lawsuits. We just lost a big one on appeal, though.

Pretty wild to see the evolution right? Apparently him and Adam Carolla are still good friends which is encouraging. They supposedly, just do not talk any politics.

The left shouldn’t cancel anyone from the right, and the right should cancel anyone from the left.
Especially in a country that values its freedoms such as the US. A talk show is for entertainment purposes only, if you don’t like the message, don’t watch it.

Cancel culture is not something that should be celebrated by anyone. I bet I can scroll back five years on this thread and see how many people bemoaned the cancel culture of the time (it has to work both ways).

For what it’s worth, I loved the Man Show, and I’ve never watched Jimmy Kimmel.

Ziggy Zaggy!

Bingo.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it," gets tossed out the window pretty fast these days.

Freedom of speech includes very distasteful subjects and viewpoints. But it appears that some folks only want messages they approve of to be disseminated and are willing to use the power of the state to suppress ideas they don't like. Not the sign of a healthy democracy.

Can one party make the agreement null and void on their own, or do all parties need to agree?

I haven’t looked closely at USMCA since it was written and don’t remember.

It is my understanding that tariff negotiations with Mexico and America are dealing with USMCA being dissolved. If two of three parties are not involved I don’t know if the agreement is survivable.

Bessent and others in the Trump administration have suggested that USMCA is going away next year. I figure they have smart people and know the legalize in the treaty to make it happen or do a work around of some sort if they want and it sounds like they want it to happen.

The defense industry gets a lot of criticism - some deserved and some bat sh$t crazy. It is good when a critical capability is exceeding the development glide path. Two years ago (2023), without yet being awarded an LRIP contract (Low Rate Initial Production) and no knowledge whether a new administration would maintain the program, Northrop Grumman committed just under $2 billion dollars to prepare their Palmdale plant for a quick start for LRIP. That year, the Street punished Northrop pretty severely for this profit "loss." But the country is now benefitting enormously as this technically revolutionary aircraft is taking to the skies ahead of schedule. In spite of the similarities in appearance, the B-21 is about as far advanced over the B2 as it was the B-52.

Pretty good synopsis if you can manage the fighter jock attitude.

For the conspiracy minded, this is a new speculative image of the Roswell alien craft that is buzzing around the internet after release of photos of the crash site a couple of days ago. :E Hmmm: :E Shrug:

I spent most of my Air Force career in a fighter wing around fighter pilots, with the exception of my first two years spent with a SAC wing. Yes, some fighter pilots are arrogant, but this guy is flat annoying. I wonder if it was because he was a Thunderbird, but wow! :ROFLMAO:

Yes, you cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theatre when you know there is no fire.

But that is not at all what is happening here.

Plus don't forget the rest of that rule:

"FCC rules specifically say that the “public harm must begin immediately, and cause direct and actual damage to property or to the health or safety of the general public, or diversion of law enforcement or other public health and safety authorities from their duties.”

I am of mixed feelings about this. Matthew Dowd, I think was right to be canceled as he was victim blaming Kirk and basically said he deserved getting shot based on his views. A vile statement.

Kimmel on the other hand, did not attack Kirk at all. He, incorrectly, mentioned the shooter was MAGA and the MAGA folks were taking advantage of the situation. The "never let a crisis go to waste" doctrine.

Kimmel should not have been canceled and was canceled basically due to pressure from the administration.

Now, if Kimmel show was news, then at worst a retraction would be on order. It is a comedy/opinion show. BTW, that is the same thing Fox News have said for years about its opinion shows and people's reaction to those shows stretching the truth at times, that its news shows are accurate and opinion shows are interpretive.

Also, if we are going to cancel people for lies, it would have to start at both sides of the aisle and White house occupants going back decades.

Firing talk show hosts has zero to do with the 1st amendment. It’s purely a business decision. The people running ABC, CBS, NBC have no morals other than worshiping ratings and money. Do we really think they care if Charlie Kirk’s friends or family were offended

The networks are not getting rid of profitable people. If the employee is more in the liability column than the profitability column. It’s an easy decision.

ABC paid trump 16 million in damages. They only paid Kimmel 15 million per year in a dying genre.

They most likely have a clause in their contract that got exercised.

That is arbitrary indeed and open to debate.

But conservatives and right leaning people always want to unilateral disarm themselves. Learn from your mistakes. Crush you enemies when you have the chance. People crying about lefties losing their job about an opinion. Kirk got murdered for his one and they applaud it.

Freedom of speech doesn’t mean you’re boss can’t shitcan you for embarrassing them on their show.

The FCC said they might investigate but it was Disney that decided Kimmel wasn’t worth the hassle. This isn’t a freedom of speech issue, it’s business. Kimmel can still say whatever stupid things he wants on his own dime.

The company that owns bunch of ABC affiliates has a $6B+ merger pending approval, so they pulled the Kimmel show due to possible retaliation from Trump administration. Ditto for the threat from the FCC head.

It is a freedom of speech issue in that it forced ABC to pull the plug due to the administration's possible retaliation. It became a business decision due to the administration's stance. The show would not have lost viewers due to what Kimmel said as he was preaching to the choir.

It was possible retaliation. And Kimmel wasn’t deemed worthy of risking a possibility.

Sounds like a business decision to me and Kimmel can still go on X and cry about it later. He just won’t be getting paid for it.

I’m curious what industries you guys all work in where you can say whatever you want at work without any repercussions.
I guarantee that if I went on tv and said something that got my employer into a regulator’s crosshairs, I’d be out toot sweet.

I own my own companies and am unapologetic about my views. That being said, I do not discuss politics or religion. Now, I have lost and gained clients due to elephant hunting and guns, so it is a wash.

Hey my friend, I am returning to SA for a Cape Buffalo hunt in June 26. My outfitter has suggested Highveld but I have read some poor reports. Wondering how satisfied you were with your mounts from them? Thanks in advance.
Finally back to somewhat normal I missed reading the messages and posts
