Where in Africa do the largest horned Springbok come out of?

I think a few are selling the hunting at jules of karoo a little short. Yes they breed for large rams but those are in controlled areas. They have a huge area with many springbuck roaming areas they were born on. This is not some hundred acre spot.

I love Namibia and will hunt a springbuck there again but I would hunt at jules of karoo if it was not for the big price jump on size. I think it would be a fair chase hunt and as good as Namibia.

I know I would not hunt where 1/2” might cost me $1,500.00 or more.

In my recent research I’ve seen big Springbok coming out of large concessions in the Karoo, Northern Cape and Namibia. It might be a bit harder hunting, but I’d go to one of those places if that was top on my list.

It’s hard to say definitively that the big ones come from a certain area or certain farm. I will say that the bigger springbok and gemsbok I’ve seen have been in Namibia. Springbok are one of those animals I’m likely to hunt each time I’m on Safari. Classic animal!

Thanks for all the tips guys! This has been very helpful. Sounds like I went to the wrong spot for springbok when I went to Namibia. Leopard legends- those are some incredible springbok! I’ll send you a PM.

Also of note: I hope Karoo doesn’t mind me sharing this. They sent me a PM not to sell me on their property, but to give me some other recommendations! To say I’m impressed would be an understatement. I’m used to the competition talking trash about each other. Well done Karoo!

Kudos to @Karoo Wild Safaris ! Well played Sir .

You may contact Spitskop Safris in the Northern cape, I have seen big Springboks there, and in all colors too.

Good post Leopard Legends; those are some fine animals.(y)

I was at Westfalen Safaris two years ago, and they had plentiful trophy springbuck. I did not have them on my list, but I saw some very nice ones. I suggest you give John call or email and chat. All free range, all the time. And they only deal with one client or group at a time.
They are on this site.

I hate the Euro system in Europe (where I have no choice) much less in Africa. Absolutely hate paying by the centimeter or inch. Give me a wild piece of Namibia, Zim, or Mozambique where the PH is working his ass off to find the best possible animal. Free range SCI Gold Medal/ Rowland Ward free range Namibian Springbok.

I like the thick bases like this over a thin looking longer horn. To me it has it all. This is what I'm looking for when I go back. On a side note, I absolutely despise the sliding scale pricing. If I see that kind of pricing, you lost my business whether it's here in the US or anywhere else in the world. Just too many options that don't do it so I see no reason to go that route.

The Kalahari (N Cape) has very good springbuck, but how will probably have to work to get one. Note though that it is quite easy to get big rams during the rut as they stake out territories and will not readily move from them - to the point that they are taken by caracal and even jackal during that period.

Agreed Red Leg. I struggle with that concept as well. It was a deal breaker for an outfit I was looking at a few years ago when I saw the different prices for their kudu based on length.

That's a fantastic springbok! What I'm after.

Agreed Mike- and what a springbok!!

That's interesting Daga Boy. I didn't know that. I'll have to look that up and consider my hunt at that time.

Lot of options for sure....they do take a lot of big ones in open areas in Namibia. Fun hunt!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
