What are you reading?

Another one I’m enjoying…

Safari operator framed for murder and caught up in the political antics of Zimbabwe in the early 2000’s.

Started The Anxious Generation. More an employment related read for continuing education and special interest relating to patients I may deal with.
Thunder without th Rain was reviewed by several in the books section. I did not care for it at all and gave my copy away. Others wrote very positive things-I have other McIntyre books that I did enjoy-Augusts in Africa for example.
My wife and I read this book as it was recommended to us. I’m now recommending it to anyone I know who has kids.

Would be interested to hear any opinions as everyone I know who has read the book is in agreement with the conclusions and recommendations.

Just finished Mahohboh by Ron Thomson. One of the best books I've read about hunting elephant.

This should be on everybody's reading list. Also the potential he describes for elephant hunting to increase the wealth of the African people and his stance against the "greenies".

I always say to the animal rights activists that we as hunters are not your enemies. We have the same goals and truly love wildlife and nature. It makes me sad and angry at the same time when they think we are only in it to kill an animal.

I've just read Conquistador; Hernán Cortés, king Montezuma and the last stand of the Aztecs by Buddy Levy. History book about the conquest of Mexico. Great book, reads like a novel.

Regarding Africa just started with Mahohboh by Ron Thomson.
Ron Thomson’s books are excellent reading. All available on Kindle.

Yes indeed. Bought after finishing this book his whole memoirs containing six books. Already started the first book, love it!

A must for anyone exploring the Florida outdoors away from the beaches.
Being here for generations and my best buddy came from Acadia fl. He said that was a ruff spot lol

I just finished “Throne of Grace” about the mountain man Jedidiah Smith. Enjoyed it.

I’m about 20% into the western novel “Monte Walsh” by Jack Schaefer and am REALLY enjoying it.

I started Blixens “African Hunter” and was enjoying it so I stopped. Have a bear hunt in June and saving it for the tree stand.

Just curious, are you reading African Hunter via physical book or ebook?

I have the physical book but I also have it on my kindle. I have a bunch of books that I haven’t gotten to yet.

I'm excited: the new Joe Abercrombie book is available tomorrow.

:E Happy:

Gotcha. Then I will thank you for buying the Kindle version. I am the one who published it at the end of last year. I have a small side project (Whistling Thorn Press) and I hope to bring many more safari/outdoor books to the Kindle store and also audiobook. These are the ones I have published so far: https://www.whistlingthornpress.com/books

Sweet! I enjoy having the physical books. But I really enjoy my kindle for ease of use. I wish more hunting books were available on kindle.

I also wish someone would digitalize hunting videos for use on devices.

Thank you for this I love physical books. But, as a guy who flies for work constantly the kindle is smooch better. Not have to carry a couple big heavy books in my bag and always having new one ready to go if I finish mid flight.

The lack of safari and gun books on the kindle has always been a frustration.

Teddy Roosevelt biographies…

Titan, a biography of John Rockefeller. And The God Delusion.

I don't normally read two books at once, but Titan is very dense, so I don't like to read too much at once or I don't take it all in. Had to do a Hitler biography the same way last year.

Titan is great. Pairs well with The First Tycoon about Vanderbilt.

I read a lot, mostly aviation history books but most recently, I finished re-reading "Yeager", and "King Solomon's Mines" and am currently reading "People of the Mist" by: H. R. Haggard who also wrote aforementioned KSM. Both are about Africa and were written in the 1880's so the language in use at the time is different from today. Interesting reads for fiction works.

Here's the target for the NorthForks - 25yds off a bag, iron sights. Hunting leopards over dogs the range won't be more than that.

Flew in an airshow in Smyrna years ago, beautiful country.

Best regards,
