Well, it’s finally time!
Less than two weeks until our departure to Johannesburg.
A night at Afton and then on to Limpopo.

All of my travel documents are in place.
Henry @rifle permits has me all squared away for the SAPS office. Everything is packed and I’m finally going to Africa.

Wish me luck and I hope to write a detailed hunting report from my journal notes with photos upon my return.

though I don’t post much, I read often. I want to thank all of those on here who have gone before me and wrote about their experiences and offered advice.

cheers!

Have a great trip!

Good luck and shoot straight. Enjoy your hunt and post a report on your return.

… nothing wrong w/ being a good student & steward on AH. I do it often even w/ afew trips notched on the belt plus an African Adventure is far beyond the hunt/stalks … equally indulge in Place, People, & Culture.

Exciting times ahead! Happy Trails

Congratulations!!!! Hope it’s everything you have dreamt of!!!

Have a safe and memory producing journey!!!

Good luck and happy trails, go and make some memories to last a life time.

BloodyKnuckles, in a way "we" all envy you. Looking forward to hunting Africa for the first time brings an excitement and anticipation all of its' own. With all of the planning done, it is time to sit back and smell the roses. Get out one more time and practice shooting off sticks. It will take your mind off of "watching the pot boil!!" Looking forward to your report and photos. BTW those Afton House steak dinners are awesome.

Oh yah! Everyone who's been knows exactly the feeling. After months or years planning..... the torture of the long flight is nearly over, the lights will start coming up in the cabin. Passengers and attendants will start waking up and stirring about. You may get a snack and coffee. You start feeling the electricity in the cabin building as others, likely some hunters too, also anticipate the arrival in JNB and start looking out the windows. The chatter increases. You know it is happening when you feel the engines throttle back, signaling the start of the long decent into JNB. It will be different. Have patience and enjoy! Time flies with no way to slow it down, but try :) Good luck!

Good luck on your trip. Love that feeling when its getting close!

Thank you all for the well wishes.
I’m going up in to Limpopo for plains game.

As a first timer, I guess what one would call the “glamour game” with a greater Kudu on the top of my list along with impala, blesbok, warthog, zebra along with whatever the bush offers me.

I have 10 days to take it all in and enjoy.
I hope to write in my journal daily as to not forget any details at all.
I am acutely aware that you have on first trip and I plan to make the most of it.

The fact of the matter is though, I’m ready to begin planning trip 2!

10 more days!!

Well, that it itself proves that you've been reading from this site often as you said in your original post! You've read the warnings, the encouragements, and the evidence regarding how addictive it can be. I wish you well, and I hope that your entire trip is everything you've dreamt of and more! With 10 days you'll likely be able to enjoy a little more of what RSA has to offer should you choose to do so. You're very wise to keep notes, as the excitement can seem to have many amazing memories run together, overlap, or even go out of order. It's a great idea to help you with keeping everything straight!
I'm excited for you, and a bit envious at the same time. There's a magic to Africa that cannot be described! You'll soon understand what I mean.
Happy hunting!

“Envy ...” for me, May is my favorite month to be in the Bush w/ wet season over, fresh grass & bloom … some of the species are all Amped Up, known time for Kudu & Warthog to be in Rut & ^ odds to spy quality/mature Bull & Boar near the Ladies!

Impala - may be abit early (?) for the full blown Rut but that is - The Best Show in Town! The dominant Rams calls are like Mtn Gorilla on steroids & I spied a waterhole show: a dominant Ram drove himself into near madness w/ his tongue hanging out trying to protect +/- 15 Ewes from 2/smaller Rams … insane entertainment!

Consider the lil guys in Duiker & Steenboks - challenging stalk & trophy on a different scale!

*Departing Tip: smart to have a Trophy Hit-list to stay org., on budget & leave something for a return *but* if you hear the PH mumble, “damn, that’s the biggest ____ I’ve seen here, this year, or ever, etc!?” Take notice, get in your glasses, have a chat & advisable - reprioritize your Hit-List.

Yip, a return trip/details will be sketched out on the home flights cocktail napkin! Happens to most …

Happy Trails

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark

Appreciate your Limcroma/Franco comments. Will be seeing him in April....again. great person as well as his family (he has a new born son). I will always recommend him who makes a hunt special and exciting. Marc

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
