Hi,

For my second buffalo hunting trip, I contacted African Echo Safaris. I hunted in the past with Glaeser Conradie and we stayed in touch. He is the PH with whom I have the best connection during the hunt.

To make this hunt interesting, we fixed to hunt only a buffalo with good drop-horns. The weather wasn’t great for us : wind, cold temperatures and rain ! The buffaloes were also constantly moving and we had difficulty keeping up with the herd.

The day before we got our trophy, we had a chance got approach the herd quite close, but again our efforts were interrupted by rain showers. The same evening we received the news of Scott van Zyl. He was a great friend of Glaeser and I offered to him to stop our hunt. But he replied “Scott would have liked us to continue this trip”.

The following day, still early morning, we found fresh tracks and the tracker also spotted the buffalos at quite a distance. Has eyes of a hawk ! The PH and the tracker done an amazing work. We moved quickly to cover some ground and to intercept the herd, but they stopped in thick bush. We moved back, stalked and crawled for a good part of the morning to be in a good shooting position. We was very close to the animals. Our bull was laying down and we had to wait for him to get up.

As the buffalo bull got up, Glaeser told to me to shoot him in the heart. The herd ran. When I saw some blood behind the left shoulder of the bull, I quickly positioned myself and shot a second bullet.
The bull collapsed in his tracks and started bellowing.

Now, the rain no longer falls from the sky but from my eyes!

Thank you to Glaeser and the tracker to help me to realize this hunt and to organize a 2018 hunting trip together.

Every time when I’ll admire this buffalo I would remember these intense moments, but also I’ll think about Scott...
