Hello, I have been searching for this and have found it to be the best of both worlds for silencer and muzzle break that will not kill your ears or any one around you.
Silencers are often described as heavy and too long in very thick cover and can be a pain trying to go through heave cover . The ASR BLAST SHIELD attachment allows you to keep your ASR muzzle break in play without killing your ears and your PH's ears. The muzzle break is called silencer CO hybrid ASR muzzle break for the hybrid 46 silencer with CHARLY disconnect. The Hybrid 46 silencer will add over one pound hanging out in front of barrel and will slow a person down considerably unless you shoot thousand of rounds a year and have adapter to the extra weight . I have been planning ahead of time. This combo is on my 458 win mag, which I will take on my 21 day hunt in 2027. I will only use the 458 win mag for all game that is considered dangerous. My PH has given me the green light for lead bullets on every thing but elephant and buffalo. I will use cutting edge 450 gr solid on elephant and for buffalo I will use barnes tsx 450 gr all other will be with a 430 grain lead bullet equaling the solid and expanding bullets in velocity, which means I only need one scope and iron sights setting. There are many thread sizes and caliber ASR muzzle breaks on the market .

Would be interesting to get a instrument DB check on a round shot with the break, with the hybrid device screwed on over the break and with the silencer?

I have several rifles with the ASR mount, so I just ordered one of the blast shields; we'll see what we see. You can get about a $40 discount if you poke around a bit on GB.

I will have my grand son help with the DB from his cell phone and give the readings
I know the readings will not be as good as the real equipment but at least it will give a starting point
Where do you think would be the best place beside the shooter or 5 foot beside end of barrel ?

I have run a couple of linear comps on rifles. They do work. Not that particular model but similar. One of the newer suppressor companies LayerX is designing supressors that also a sound forward design. We will have them at our range doing some testing near the end of March. If I can get pictures and video I will post it.

The cherry bomb on my fix is a good suppressor mount but a loud comp similar to your setup David.

I ran the whistle tip device which does the same thing and my PH did not seem to have a problem with the blast forward problem. I would loved to have taken my suppressor but did not want to deal with any problems flying out of Boston.

Out of interest why 3 different types of bullet?...sounds like a recipe for confusion somewhere along the line...soft and solid fine..but why throw in the lead one....?....
I was the founder of Hunters Supply cast bullets inc for over 40 years
I have turned over the intire operation to my daughter and have retired so It is time to fill my bucket list

I have always wanted to hunt Africa as the old timers did with lead bullets my PH and I have come to a agreement to stay with solid for elephant and expanding for buff which I have chosen Barnes TSX 450 gr shooting at 2242 fps giving over 5000 foot pounds of energy
and cutting edge 450 solid at 2278 fps and over 5100 foot pounds of energy .

There should be no confusion on ammunition when I am hunting elephant I will only have the 450 gr solids in rifle and on ammo belt.Shot will be under 50 yards . I will not be hunting Buff during the elephant hunt but if needed the solid will work nicely on Buff in case of a charge.

After the elephant We will be moving to hunt crock and land hippo this will be with lead bullet.Same as elephant only lead in rifle and ammo belt shots will be under 100 yards.

We will then move to Kalahari to hunt non exportable lion with lead bullet max shot will be 100 yards

Then we will move to one of Boshnel Safaris home bases to hunt Buff and the plains game on my list.
While hunting Buff the rifle will only have TSX expanding and ammo belt, shot will be under 100 yards.
If a Plains game on my list happens to be where we are hunting Buff I will shoot the Plains game with TSX expanding max 300 yards

After the buff the rifle and ammo belt will only have the lead bullet loads .

The lead bullet will be in the in the same area of 2300 fps with a 430 grain lead gas checked bullet
I put a minimum of 2000 foot pounds of energy at 300 yards with lead bullet on my self knowing what is needed for a good one shot kill at 300 yards if needed .

This is the beauty of the 458 it will shoot just about all 457 to 459 diameter bullets on the market today and modern double base gun powder really brings the 458 back to life.

I hope this explains the 3 ammo and one rifle a little more clearly for my 21 day safari .
Yes I have other rifles including 375 H&H ,416 Taylor ,300 win mag, 30/06, 300 H&H and 35 whelen
but the old timers only had one rifle ,so to keep with my dream of hunting Africa as the old timers did the modern 458 will be my only rifle.

I have the solid and tsx shooting the same point of impact at 50 yards I am working on the 430 lead
now .

I may switch the 1x6 scope over to a 3x15 scope for lead bullet work.
I also have extra 1x6 scopes if needed for the lead bullet only scope . I have been using the Leupold quick change scope base and rings.
As of today I have taken the scope off and reattached over 50 times with no shift on bullet impact
I wish Leupold would not have dropped this mount and rings system.

The best part for lead bullets in 458 win mag they do not cost 3.00 + per bullet so as a hunter I can shoot thousand of rounds and really know my rifle and ammunition bullet path .

I owe this to my PH it is not only my life on the line, the trackers and my PH life is on the line
when hunting dangerous game .

Sorry for being so long winded.

OK thanks for the explanation....hope you have a great hunt :D Beers:

I would set it 5 foot beside the shooter
I have the numbers 5 foot directly beside shooter
cutting edge 450 gr solid at 2278 fps test ammo in 458 win mag

Break only 93 db

break and sound forward blast shield 75 db

46 silencer 70 db

I had my friend use his phone and we used tape he was even with me at 5 foot

with break only he felt the shock wave

with blast shield he did not feel shock wave, sound seamed to be forced down range

and of corse with silencer nothing was felt

so yes the blast shield I have shown does work and will not be felt by close bystanders
Looking forward to other results

Does anyone have a link to order a blast shield that you’ve used and/or recommend?

Last time I flew out of Boston the woman at the check in and also the TSA agent who came out did seem very relaxed when checking in my firearms and ammo, no suppressor that time.
Though their checking of everything was so vague it was more to just see the items as they did not check if they were unloaded or anything. They just had me open it, asked if it’s unloaded and lock it back up.
I was surprised it was that smooth at that location.

@David jr Thank you for the numbers and especially your time to run the test!!! Big difference between the brake and the blast shield installed.

Does it affect accuracy? Does it still give recoil reduction?

Accessory is not effected by blast shield the muzzle break and blast shield is a real help for me on muzzle rise making recoil straight back on my 458

I just received a email from my PH telling me silencer is not allowed in Zimbabwe for my elephant hunt
only muzzle break and blast shield are allowed in Zimbabwe

Makes it real simple for me I will only have the muzzle break and blast shield with me on my 21 day safari please check with your PH’s if planning to hunt in Africa with silencer

here is a 458 lead load I will be using in Africa this was shot yesterday in 20 to 30 mph wind at 50 yards yes this wind speed will blow a 458 off corse even at close range

I live in NH but all the stupid MA laws I pay the 100/year for an out of state MA permit.

As long as its cased walking by State Troopers they don't even give a second glance. When I checked into United for Africa last year the checkin only took a half hour because I don't think the lady had ever done an international gun checkin. It was just lots of new pages and tabs. I didn't even open the case, the supervisor made sure you could not access the guns with the locks on and said I needed to open it to put in the orange card but with the locks i have on my 1750 it leaves just enough of a gap to slide in that orange card.

She chuckled and waited for TSA to do its thing.

The worst experience I had with guns in Boston was coming back from hunting in CA and the lady working the oversize baggage put a large zip tie on the case to "prevent what happened in Florida"?!?

That was about a guy who shot up a baggage claim. She clearly hated gun and was a bitch about the whole thing. Other than that Boston has been suprisingly chill with bolt guns and shot guns.

when you say MA permit are you talking $100 per year for the pistol permit?

Yes Boston as much as I hate traveling south of the Notch off 93 it’s not as bad as us locals make it out to be lol

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?

what kind of velocity does the 140 grains list, curious how they would fit in with my current 130 gr, supply of 270s. maybe a pic of the box data listing vel. and drop. Oh and complements on that ammo belt, nice.
