Shooters under attack in Australia

So, recently, they rekindled ties to the UK?

I tried to sever ties with the 24/7 news cycle for some peace & quite just for a month around Jesus's birthday.

I guess I can't???

Dang.

What happened to Australia and New Zealand?

Do they still have some kind alliance to the UK???

Good grief.
Aillegance? Sort of we still use the Crown on our currency etc.
Historically they have been an interesting bunch when you think about it about it.

UK gun laws are tougher than ours, oh hang on they have a ton of Muslims and associated problems too. Maybe that is where we are going wrong.

Our Pollies don’t want to go down the American path with firearms. Well they said that in 96, but we are following the UK importing problems. They used to export their problems. Worked out ok for the future generations but we have pollies committed to trashing this country.

Exactly right. When is the last time you heard of a "radicalized" Christian, Jew, Hindu, or any other religion committing a terrorist act of mass murder? I do not want to hear about the crusades, or some event in the Old Testament. Let's try to keep this within the last thousand years. Likewise political movements (Nazi, Communists, etc.) are not religions.

Most Muslims are not terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslims. There is no reason to try and make all.religions the same or equally guilty.

Well, they seem to be making all shooters out to be the risk here.

They ask why should someone own 6 firearms in the city. Why should a non resident on a Visa be eligible to get a state issued licence and permits to acquire/purchase and own firearms?

They are using the city as an excuse but there are Doctors, Lawyers and people of all Background s that own firearms in the city. Some probably own rural land and most would travel at least one hour to access a club or approved range. Often the travel time is longer.

Then we have Public Land hunting on a booking system and pay to hunt property across this great land. Many will take guided hunts in various areas and one of the smallest states offers free public land hunting on a permit.

People of all nationalities embrace this and some are brown skinned bearded men. Most are good people. The description used by one person of the same description who is also known for their You Tube hunting channel .

Sounds exactly like what happened in nz authorities didn’t do there bloody job and the law abiding citizens pay for it with shit moves and stupid policy’s! Really feel for you guys know pretty well how you feel having gone through it in NZ.
And the same in the UK… it’s a well trodden path unfortunately

As with other Western countries, law abiding shooters and hunters are the threat while those that want to destroy Western culture are not a risk. Really? And if facts show your thinking is incorrect you then accuse the conservative thinkers of being racists, even if race is not anywhere in the issue. Then go back to blaming guns for bad behavior. Uh-huh.

If murder is prevented by passing a law against owning guns, why don't we just make.murder illegal. Criminals obey the law right?

Because safety
Is a excuse for control.
That’s it nothing more.

I won't tell you what to do. I've got no right to. I've never even been to your country. But, I will pray for you. The U.S., Canada,...we all need prayer. Hold on to whatever it is you believe.
Thanks mate . (y)

Whilst I deplore the recent shootings at a Jewish festival at Bondi beach and condemn this act of violence against these or any other people's I deplore the NSW government reaction to legal and licenced gun owner as well.
This act was a terrorist attack and the politicians are saying it's not a gun issue but a terrorist issue.
Despite this they are out to tighten gun control even further to law abiding citizens.
This will limit the amount of guns we can own to 4 .
Lever relt, straight pull and some other types will become Cat C making them almost impossible to own. This even includes the blazer R8.

The stupidity of our government has to be heard to be believed.
They are going to outlaw high capacity belt fed rifles and shotguns. We as hunters and shooters have NEVER BEEN ALLOWED to own belt fed weapons but idiot Joe public doesn't know this and applauds the government decision and will feel safer .
This is another knee jerk reaction by our stupid govt to limit gun ownership because of a terrorist attack.
For more details on our government stupidity you can google the new proposed laws.

My sympathy and the sympathy of all Australian shooters goes out to the families of those killed and injured in this terrible TERRORIST ATTACK.
I will finish by reiterating what some of our saner political people have said. This WAS NOTa gun problem it was a
Its not a gun problem its a immigration problem
My wife and I will be allowed 4 firearms each, we currently own 18 between us.
I now have to decide which of my 8 treasured Ruger No1's I'll have to surrender to be cut in half.
I'm 68, hunting and shooting have been my life for 52 years, along side being a professional Fireman for 41 years.
Now I'm considered a threat to society!!
My mental health has, as a consequence of Post traumatic stress, hounded me for years, it sure has gotten worse in the last 6 days.
The future looks rather bleak, after ruining my physical and mental health, trying help society through my work, I am now no better than a criminal!!!!
.And, I didn't do it!!!
Well... how austrailian export laws. Vs cutring in half maybe recoup your $$ by exporting to buyers in other places?

So what was the result of this? Did they pass legislation banning more than 6 firearms ? I couldn’t find any other information.
@Don458
4-10 depending on sport or professional.
Bob
Still waiting for it to pass as there's a lot of of opposition

Thinking of doing that with my Whelen AI on a M17 action done in a model 30 REM style.
The one on the left with the pepper laminate stock. Would be easy to rum a 358 Norma reamer thru it or a 358STW.
Would make some one a beautiful rifle and should be able to export with the right paper work.
Open to offers over $659 USD plus postage.

Bob, the legislation passed before Christmas and was assented on 24DEC25. Copy on the legislative website https://legislation.nsw.gov.au/view/pdf/asmade/act-2025-86.

They rushed it through because they knew if they took theirtime, people would wake up to the fact that it all based on lies. Pretty clear that the firearm sections were written outside of NSW and only tissed up to fit. Interestingly it effectively creates 2 classes of Australian permanent residents ie those who are Kiwis vs all the rest.

Quite possible it was the brainchild of the Aust New Zealand Police Commissioners meeting which means all shooters in other states and in New Zealand should be worried about what's on the horizon.

It’s an unfortunate fact that the right to bear arms is the mark of a citizen; otherwise, you’re just a subject to be ruled by your “betters”.
@analog_peninsula
Now that makes me laugh.
Ruled by our betters what a joke.
A complete idiot would be better

I may not be as good as some
I'm a damn sight better than a lot of others
But I'm equal to everyone.
Bob

Our problem is the both the major political parties are anti-gun ownership. We have no major party to turn to to get some sanity into the discussion. It is easier for them to look to be doing something by tightening gun laws than acknowledge the failure of the very people that are responsible to ensure the safety of the Australian population.
The son was on an ASIO watch list and they investigate him for 6 months in 2019 due to his association with an ISIS preachers. Once they cleared him, they never kept monotoring him. His father then applied and was approved for an A & B category licence and no alarm bells went off! Then in Novemeber this year they went to the Phillipines for ISIS terrorist training and our government authorities failed again to detect the risk to our population.
The father legally bought straight pull shotguns and rifles yet the authorities failed to detect the risk.
This is not the only time the "authorities" that are tasked with ensuring the safety for the Australian society have failed. They failed with Dezi Freeman, they confiscated his guns and then issued his wife with a gun license - how does that work. He killed 2 policemen and they still have not found him.
In WA there was an estranged husband that was a licenced hand gun owner. The wife and children pleaded with the police to confiscate his firearms due to the threats he was making and the restaining order the courts had imposed. The police failed to act and he murdered a friend of the wife and her daughter whilst trying to locate his wife!
It is far easier for the politicians to ban more guns than is is for them to resource the very people who are responsible to detect and control the real risks to our society. They were meant to install a national register of firearms in 1996 and they still have not done it.
The whole situation is very disappointing and frustrating especially for those families that have been horrendously affected by the failures of the Australian authorities.
This sounds very much the same as here in the UK

Without competency and means tests, elections will usually be won by those who shout loudest.

Competency testing - if you don’t understand how government functions and its mechanisms, you are incapable of making an informed decision, and are easily manipulated.

Means testing- if you aren’t helping row, you have no right to decide where the boat is going.

When you allow vote buying with public funds, and the personally dysfunctional to vote, you get the world as we see it.
