That's a pretty rare find

Supposedly there were some chamber dimension issues with these, thus the very few made. I have a custom barreled No. 1 .404 that works fine, and for lots less than this one.

Yep, these are rare as hen's teeth. I'm not sure how many were made, but it was a small number.

I'm a fan but not at $2k

Agree, the 404 premium is a bit too much at $2k. There are several No. 1s listed in 450/400 NE for around $1,000, which is a much better deal and gets the buyer a serious and historically cool safari caliber cartridge.

I was going to list this, as well, for the masochist who isn't interested in classic styling, but it appears to have sold.

By the way (word of warning), J.D. Jones' Ruger No. 1 in 577 NE conversion did not pass CIP proof, when submitted. In other words, should a similar opportunity present itself in the future, caveat emptor!

According to this: http://www.classicsportingarms.com/ruger-no-1-rifles-for-sale/

Also made, but never cataloged, were about 30 1H in 450/400 N. E. in the D weight barrel. All previous 450/400’s made were with a C weight barrel. I have a few of these for $1350.
I made a special purchase of some of the last cataloged 1H 450/400’s with the C weight barrelthat I can sell for $935 shipped to Your FFL. These are NIB, but fairly plain wood.

Any thoughts on the pros and cons of either? My guess is the D weight adds a little weight and reduces the recoil slightly.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
