I've been getting everything together for my trip. The instructions from Henry say to send a notarized copy of passport and form 4457. I have been to my bank, courthouse and the sheriff's office and none will notarize a copy of the 4457 because the form has already been signed by the customs agent. They all tell me that the forms must be signed in their presence. Has anyone else run into this? Suggestions?

Do you have any personal friends who are notaries?

I'm fortunate to know one and she'll do just about anything for us. If you know anyone that works in a law office, that's where I'd start looking.

I went to a friend who is a notary and had her do them!

By the way the notary is only confirming that you are the person presenting the documents!

There you go that is the way to use your resources!

Mr Austin is correct all the notary is doing is verifying that the copy of the 4457 is the same as the original 4457. It is the same with the passport.

They are not verifying any signatures on it.

I understand. I tried to explain that and even took some printed directions into the bank but they wouldn't do it. But like I said, it is done!

Kind of off of the subject of getting things notarized but is Henry at Rifle Permits.com now asking for you to send him copies of your information and forms or is he still accepting faxed copies?

If you have to send them to him use FedEx or UPS. I found out last year that if you just mail them they might show up and then again they might not. I used a different meet and greet company in SA that required the actual paperwork and not faxes.

He is asking for the actual forms. I've read about the postal issues and will definitely be using FedEx.

Notarized forms? That is news to me.

I emailed my forms and was told all were in order. Check with him about that.

Copy of your passport is notarized stating that it is a true and correct copy., but the 4457 has a stamp when signed by the officer issuing, I have never needed to notariz the 4457. E mailing mine has never been a problem.

When I had it done the notary wrote on the copy that it was a true copy of the form presented to them.
