"Ask yourself why our economy dwarfs most others? The economy of most U.S. States dwarfs the economies of most large countries. It's because our system is better, but most don't take this lesson away from what they learn about America."

That’s certainly true, and I tip my hat to that efficiency.
But without your frontrunners, California and New York (State), the picture would look quite different.
Strangely enough, these are all states governed by Democrats, even though they’re so vilified here.

Do they know more about the economy??:A Outta:

That is far too simplistic of a view…

While NY and CA economies are indeed huge… both have slowed dramatically and have become increasingly sluggish under long standing Democrat governance…

While Texas and Florida economies are currently booming and growing at an increasing rate, often stealing large market cap businesses out of California and New York… and have been doing so under long standing Republican governance..

CA’s economy grew the fastest just post WW2 from 1945-1960. Both governors during that time (Warren and Knight) were republicans.

NY’s economy grew the fastest in the early 2000’s during the Fin-tech boom..Pataki, a Republican was governor when the fintech boom started. During the boom there was a mix of R and D governors.

There is zero question that both CA and NY are in decline currently… and also not a coincidence that both have extreme leftist governors at the moment that constantly get railed for failed economic policy…

Also not a coincidence that the mayors of the largest cities in those states currently are extreme leftists (Mandami and Bass in particular) and that in just the last year businesses and high net worth individuals are fleeing those cities at a much faster rate, and relocating to R run cities and states…

Peter Thiel left CA and is now in FL.. Ellison left CA and is now in FL (although he spends a lot of time in Hawaii, his home of record is florida), Elon Musk left CA and is now in TX..Icahn left NY and now lives in FL.. Josh Harris left NY and is now in FL…

NY has lost 1/7 of its billionaires in just the last 4 years and many more are very publicly stating they are exiting this year…

Police bidycam footage has just been released....this horrendous tragic story has been on the independent news , like on YouTube...but first I have managed to find on msm is a release on BBC app just now.....the GB news gives a graphic description of what happened.....the police actions are mind blowing in how they behaved......didn't give a fk.....still can't get my head around it after watching the police body cam video.....they are as responsible as the useless piece of shit who stabbed him.....

GB news

The BBC....

And we only got to see the bodycam video after the massive outrage…

Democrats are good at taxing and spending. They suck at everything else.

So perhaps Ohio should be taking notes from the Swiss?
We do. Few places on the planet have a history of being open to new ideas like the United States.
The Poland comparison is far better for Ohio. But right now Poland seems to be on a significant upward trend, escaping from the shackles of its very bad location between Germany and Russia.
True, Poland is growing, but also had a history of heavy manufacturing and Shipbuilding before, during and after the Soviet era. It's history between Germany and Russia is probably the reason the Poles have advanced so rapidly in the last 40 years. A people not threatened in this way probably wouldn't be as motivated to build up their country.
I think there are a lot more things that go into a healthy economy than the two you mention, but that would make for a very long post!
I stated this exact thing in my post. See the part where I specifically stated "Of course there are dozens of other factors, but these two are far and away the greatest factors in whether a country has a first world economy or a third world economy." I take exception to your generalization of my generalization. :sneaky:
Americans tend to work far more hours than Europeans and take less vacations.
Although not overtly expressed, it was implied in point 1 in my post. If the Swiss, or or anyone else wants to prioritize drinking beer instead of clocking in at work, it's going to affect the economy.

I am not sure those two are the two biggest factors in a healthy economy, but I don't think you are off the mark. I think education and a stable legal system are way high on the list as well. So is health care and attitude towards labour.

For instance some cultures are more likely to engage in labour hoarding than others which can reduce productivity, but also reduces human suffering. It's a philosophical difference on what the goal is.

Ridiculous for sure but no less ridiculous than immigrants eating their dogs, etc. Racism is far from dead in 21st century US politics!
I was just thinking about it this morning in regard to Rubio vs Vance in 2028 or beyond. I was wondering if Rubio being Hispanic would hurt him or help him in a general election.

California and NY had the highest net outward migration in 2025. Most of the states on this list are Democrat run states. WV would be the one exception but it only recently has started turning more red and has been in an economic funk for decades.

Edit: I may be mistaken on Alaska, not sure of the exact political demographics there.

I’m guessing it helps. Trump made gains with Hispanic voters in 2024.

There are a lot of socially conservative Hispanic voters and I think many are feeling left behind by the current democrat trajectory.

However, to what degree it helps I couldn’t guess.

I believe statewide we are still Republican but you wouldn't necessarily know that based on our legislature, which is FUBAR.

My community feels like a liberal Democrat hell hole but I had a friend that worked for the department of elections and she said we are Republican by registration, so our Democrats are apparently loud and active and our Republicans much less so.

In Texas not in the R primary.

Wonder if Keir will take a knee for Nowak like he did for Floyd.

Glad to see this has at least made British news after six months of silence.

I cant make heads or tails as to why those 20 countries were selected... I get Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria and a couple of others that made the list.. Large embassies with large staff, more developed countries than most of the rest of Africa, etc.. we do more trade with those countries than others, etc..

but Liberia, Equitorial Guinea, and the DRC make the list? while others dont?

Im sure they have some rhyme or reason behind it... but.. at first blush I cant figure it out..

If we're truly worried about further restricting immigration (what the linked article says the motivationj for this is) I would have thought they would have rolled this out in Central and South America first..

Not that the problem in the US with immigration has anything to do with visa holders... we do have some people that overstay their visas.. but statistically that is far more common with Asian and Europeans that come to the US than it is Africans or people from Latin America..

Its the people that come in that never had a visa to begin with that are the primary problem..

Trumps choice for acting DNI is another head scratcher. It’s as if someone handed Trump a list of how to draw the most self inflicted wounds in the shortest period time.
Or a checklist on losing the midterms and 2028 election.

Maybe because they a major alliance with china?? ( think the Angolan model)
Or maybe a lot of B1/B2 , student visas don’t return to Zambia??
We had a engineer that was arrested for being over the visa stay limit by 5 years.

Mmm.....here are the numbers of Zambians who over stayed ....pretty miniscule amount.....most of the countries have major aliances with China in mining and infrastructure developments.....DRC the usa is trying to get access to minerals etc...but same here...bezos and gates just started developing a massive copper mine here in NW province....so more bush going to be vanishing..... possibly to do with the fact the government wouldn't sign the medical aid agreement that the usa was proposing.....wanted access to all Zambians medical records for something like 10 or 20 years..can't remember exactly, along with preferential access to minerals etc etc....some African governments signed up to it others refused due to some of those inclusions.... the medical records was a big issue, as apparently very helpful to drug companies....to me it made sense in the fact it was a way of monitoring that the money was being used properly, so the medical records would have shown an improvement in overall health in the people of Zambia...but I doubt that was the main reason....

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
