Some know this I suppose but I didn't see it here and just read about it a few minutes ago. NRA says it will be short lived, hope so. This is Obama's on-my-way-out-the-door-FU America!

Best thing Hussein did (in my opinion) was to say "goodbye". I will cherish that farewell wave for a looooonnnnngggggg time.

Barac Hussein Obama-Bin Laden, proved himself to be an enemy of freedom / festering A-Hole, right from: Day-One, clean through: "Adios, You Stupid Tax Payers" Day, however not surprising that may be. (At least for those of us who've never used hallucinogens).

FWS Director Issues One Last Anti-Hunting Order

During his last day in office, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Director Dan Ashe took one more shot at sportsmen and women by issuing Director’s Order 219. Director’s Order 219 seeks to prohibit the use of traditional ammunition on Service lands, waters, and facilities by January 2022.

Sportsmen and women need to recognize the threats on our hunting heritage and fight the attacks against the scientific management under the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.

The best science available should be used as a basis for informed decision making in wildlife management rather than by opinion. The body of scientific literature on the use of traditional ammunition does not support the FWS underlying conclusion that the past and continued use of traditional ammunition has resulted in negative wildlife population level effects.

The Director’s Order requires several initiatives to go into effect immediately. Regional Directors will work with individual states, regional state fish and wildlife associations, and tribes to identify opportunities to expand existing state, federal, or tribal requirements to ban traditional ammunition and fishing tackle on Service lands, waters, and facilities over the next 24 months. Additionally, the Director’s Order "expeditiously" bans traditional ammunition "when available information indicates" that lead is harmful to wildlife, without requirement of a scientific threshold on which to base that action. It also requires creation of a timeline to restrict traditional ammunition for dove and other upland bird hunting.

Hunting and recreational shooting are traditional and historic activities allowed on millions of acres of public lands. Alternative ammunition is more expensive for hunters – and there are not alternatives available for a number of hunting calibers. Therefore, it currently is not a viable solution and does nothing but further alienate hunters from pursing their passion.

There are no adverse wildlife population impacts or public health concerns on FWS lands that require such an unwarranted, national intervention as this Director’s Order seeks. It is simply an attempt to drive hunters, and subsequently recreational target shooters, off of Federal public lands. It is unnecessary and has no basis in sound science.

Can Americans shoot waterfowl with lead shot? Or I guess, could you? Up here it's banned

Dan was true to himself unto the end!

No we cannot, the ban started in the mid 80's on federal lands and was expanded to all waterfowl hunting a few years later.

At our club rifle range we had a standard trap setup. When you shot the stations on the right side the shot would fly over a small stream.
At some time before I joined the club there was a water test on the stream and it had a very high lead content below the range as compared to above the range that put a end to the trap range.

He figures most sportsman don't like him so it a jab at us. I guy really gets tire of the political bull. I see Trump trying to get term limits. Hope he suceeds

Thanks, Jerome....good summary...would like to see some rational appointments to the FWS under President Trump.

Do you honestly think this an attack on hunters? More like an over zealous act by a departing beaurocrat concerned for the environment. Do you remember the controversy when it was decided to stop producing leaded (as opposed to un-leaded) fuel? OK so maybe not... Anyway many alternatives exist for effective projectiles for both rifle and shotgun, that do not contain lead.

from his record i would say yes.........

Hello Rick Cox,

Let's see ....... There is this person who's a top executive in today's logic defying, anti-Second Amendment hysteria.
He launches a move that not only costs millions of target shooters, hunters and firearm owners the added cost of being forced to buy comparatively expensive, non-lead projectiles but also, the risks of having to use these rather hard projectiles which, tend to ricochet easily over relatively flat lands (IE: .22 rim fire and small bore center fire calibers commonly used to control rodents on cattle farms, grain fields, walnut orchards and such).
This is not to mention the over-penetration these non-lead projectiles often show (at issue when hunting herd animals such as caribou, pronghorn and perhaps others).
Nonetheless this dude makes his move under the veil of "protecting the environment".
So, I'd say "Yes" it was at least in part, if not entirely intended to harm people like myself.

Might be he doesn't just come out and say it because, he knows there are some serious hunters who also are card carrying Democrats (another logic defying topic) and these might switch to the Hunter and Second Amendment friendly political party, in mas ?
Could be that he's just a liar to the core and simply must lie, because that's what liars do ?
In support of that, I truly believe that ALL politicians are tireless liars, no matter what political party flag they wave.
Could be I am way off and you are spot on, in that Barry perhaps just wanted to "protect the environment".

It matters little because at the end of the day, no matter what his motivation, he is still a bad person who has harmed good persons, because that is what bad people do.

Cheers,
Velo Dog.

Hope DJT will appoint people with good common sense. The Sec Interior should be a good one but the folks they put in under him will count too.

Do you remember when gas started out as un leaded and then lead was added later to make it more peppy? I don't either but my old dad said it started out as un leaded way back when. Just a little factoid that most are probably not aware of. Obama could not care less about the environment. Its not about that. Its about both an anti gun agenda and making things difficult so we will finally just say all right, you win, and making sure the govt has its hand in every aspect of our lives and the way to accomplish that is thru silly feel good measures like this. Its about control. Obama accomplished a lot in 8 years, almost all of it bad for America. He might do better elsewhere that has a similar world view. GO TRUMP! Keep signing those new orders!

@Rick Cox I do think this is a parting shot at hunters. The environment is an excuse but in reality it was designed to make it harder on sportsman and hunters to either a) get acceptable ammo and b) make it more expensive. Both of these are designed to create barriers of entry to get people active in hunting and shooting. The more barriers the harder it is for us to grow and maintain our ranks.

Hello Rick Cox also I think you are wrong that anti hunting ex head of USFWS directly cut that order to take one last poke at all us hunters before he heads off to his next job more than likely with the Humane society or other such anti- hunting organization. There is no rational scientific study or basis to ban the use of lead shot for hunting on literally millions of acres of federal land. As others said just a nasty trick to make hunters life more complicated, cost more, etc. by Nobama appointee on his way out.

I just find it hard get riled up about this. I mostly load Barnes solid copper bullets, don't shot shotgun much, and don't care if the shot is steel or whatever. For home defence I suppose I would just stock up on 00 buck and I'll be good to go. And judging by your avatar thumbnail you don't really give a damn how much ammo costs, you are just going to buy what you like best.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
