New Member from West Texas

Welcome to AH Mosin9130! Glad to have you with us. Please share some pictures of your collections with us, it would be interesting to see.

Welcome aboard. What part of West Texas? That location covers a lot of space. The hog shown in my "avatar" was shot in Welder Texas. Take a look at the "Hog Hunting" opportunities in your area, depending on where you go the price ranges from free to very reasonable. The meat is often used to make good Mexican Food and or breakfast sausage. Try to PM one of the AH members that live near you and set up a time for a face to face meeting. He or perhaps she will be able to give you some very sage advise about your choice(s) for both Texas hunting and PG rifles.

Welcome aboard! Always great to see another Texan join the family. I'm not an engineer but have been cooped up in a conference room with several for the last eight weeks conducting a process hazard analysts. Sure glad I'm East Cape bound in a few weeks.

Hey Marius, make sure the beer is cold when I get there. :D Beers:

On tap....

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome...I'm definitely excited I found this forum/site!

To follow up on some questions...I'm from Oklahoma originally and still have a family farm just north of Cushing (Pipeline Crossroads of the World). After both graduating and getting married on the same day, the new bride and I moved to East Texas (Longview), then to Central Texas (Las Colinas/Irving), and then on to West Texas (Midland/Odessa) over the last 5 yrs...all of the moves being promotions the company said, haha. As for my degree, it's in Structural Engineering but don't tend to use it all that much but that's typical I guess.

I'll post a few pics of some of the WWII rifles I have here later and I'm really looking forward to adding a couple of good hunting rifles (30-06 and 375 H&H I'm thinking) so I'll be doing my research on this forum on a good platform (Winchester/CZ??).

Welcome West Texas! Let us know if we can answer any questions for you. Enjoy the forums.

Welcome to AH

Some WW ll rifles are better than others. The Remington 03-A3 and the Mauser K 98 has been sporterized and or re-barreled innumerable times. They can be picked up in Pawn Shops and used gun counters very reasonably. I for one have never heard of Mosin Negant (s) being turned into good looking, practical hunting rifles.

I recently had a $125.00 03-A3 re-barreled as a 35 Whelen. That gun is going to Africa in 5 months. Those old Military rifles offer a cheap way to get a "controlled feed" which is very desirable in a hunting rifle.

Welcome to AH!

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
