Hunted
South Africa
Hello all. I've been reading these forums and visiting this site for some time now. Found it while looking up information before my first trip to Africa back in March. Lot's of good information here, and lots of good people! Looking forward to much more reading and learning to come!

Some practice writing a hunt report would be a good idea. Welcome to the posting side.

Welcome aboard Damon, glad you joined us. What did you hunt on your first trip? Do you have plans to go back?

I went at the end of March this spring, a combination of work and pleasure. With only two days to hunt (which we managed to wrangle in another 1/2 day), I was fortunate enough to be able to harvest a gemsbok, impala, common blesbok, and a white blesbok. Much different from my incoming wish list of zebra, gemsbok, warthog, and steenbok!
2nd day in to the trip, I texted my wife and told her to open a separate bank account, and start saving, because we are going back as a family! Plans are now to go back in 2020, but nothing has been finalized yet--except that we are going back!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome Damon! So the Africa addiction has infected you too! I’m booked for my 4th and making plans for my 5th.

Welcome to AH!

Welcome aboard Damon. Enjoy the planning of your next trip to Africa :)

Welcome to our place Damon

Welcome to our forum Damon!

Glad to have you. Welcome.

Damon, return trips are almost a guarantee. Although hunting Africa is not a medical addiction, we on AH almost treat it as such. On to other things. Now that we have your story we need to see some pics. Hint, hint.

Welcome to AH Damon Engel! Glad to have you on the posting side.

Hi Damon, welcome to AH !

I saw this guy before the PHs did. He was standing off to the left from the herd they were glassing. When they came over to tell me which one to shoot, they saw me glassing him and about screamed "Look at the size of his ball$! Shoot him!" Now, I don't know, do they really judge certain animals by the size of their genitals? They even marveled over the size of them when we walked over to him, saying they could tell he was an old breeder by the size of his nuts. Is that true? And no, I did not get any pictures!!

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
