New and a question

I've seen several Sable in South Africa
First was in a barnyard because he had a sore foot that was being treated.

Second was while hunting a huge concession in the Karoo... it was 75,000 acres. Everything was running because they let South African hunters come in to cull for meat on weekends. They would drive around shooting at Everything from trucks. Except the huge sable bull we came across that just stood there. Upon closer examination, it was in a seperate small pen near the gate going in. Obviously off limits unless you were paying the price, which those locals were not.

Then I actually shot one, an old cull bull that was inferior genetics and was the only sable left. It took us a day to track him down because the gate was open and he was roaming a large area. It was priced like a zebra and i was there on a night hunt so why not? Gave us something to chase during the day.

My wife took a really nice sable in Tanzania, that was a hunt! Finding a good bull in the wild, millions of acres it could roam. Took luck as well as skill. Not much luck needed for a South African sable. But not too many people go to Tanzania for 3 buffalo and a sable. Especially as I believe the sable is on the 21 day license ;)

I was leopard hunting in Mozambique planning to add a sable as there were big herds of them, completely wild. First day came across a herd of sable with a few eland mixed it. 40" sable or nice big eland bull, about 36"? Outfitter asked which I wanted to try for. I said I want both. OK he said, let's go after the eland because they are not very common here but we will see sable every day. So took the eland and never saw another 40" sable. But came across a 40" eland a week later! That's hunting!

I've not personally met anyone who hunted either Zimbabwe or Moz who didn't love what they experienced. I'm sure you will have no regrets, and real reason to beat your chest a bit (like Tarzan?)

Welcome to AH. Nice to have you as part of our community.

Welcome to AH. Let us know if you have any questions.

I'm new here but want to jump in with a question.

I'm organizing a trip for two couples (three experienced hunters,) aiming for 2028. We want to target cape buffalo and a sable, with other game being welcomed, but we're not after numbers so much as experience.

We have recommendations for South Africa, but I want to at least consider additional destinations.

I'm suspecting that South Africa represents "what everyone does," in short, and wondering if there can be similar experiences (in terms of accommodations) in less-travelled portions of Africa.

Or, should I expect a South African ranch to be just as "wild" and unique as elsewhere?
welcome welcome welcome

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
