Sent to me from Grant Taylor of Mashambanzou Safaris in Mozambique. (He's holding my hippo skull and tusks fro 2012) At least there may be a "light at the end of the tunnel"
HIPPO BAN
Hi all,
We are very pleased to announce that whilst there are no signs in sight of the lifting of the export ban on Hippo products from Mozambique imposed by the CITES Secretariat - EMIAC nevertheless met with CITES representatives and after stating our case, they have agreed to appeal to the International CITES Secretariat to allow EMIAC to export all Hippo products paid for, legally hunted and where there were hunting licenses in place before and immediately after the ban.
We at EMIAC have since day one been fully aware of all the negative publicity and losses in revenue that all the Outfitters so affected as a result of this immediate ban imposed without any warning or due process and will keep on trying to do our level best to assist such Outfitters to remedy the situation
To that end we URGENTLY require the following information from all Outfitters who still has their clients Hippo products in camp for safekeeping.
1. A scanned copy of all your clients Hippo hunting license's issued before or after the ban came into effect on the 27 September 2012.
2. Clients’ full name as it appears on his/her passport and his/her e-mail address.
3. Itemized list of each Hippo part to be exported per client.
4. Current location of these Hippo items.
We are in the process of collecting all trophies dating as far back as 2010, from Trophy Export Mozambique who have closed their doors and once we have made head or tail of the paperwork in their possession, Senta our export manager, will get in touch with the relevant Outfitters to finalize the outstanding paperwork thereon.
Here, we believe that because we are not sure that we will receive all the documentation when we collect, we request that the Outfitters affected must please get in touch with Senta at senta@emiac.com in order to provide her with a list of all consignments irrespective of the Hippo or any other trophies delivered to Trophy Export Mozambique.
In cases where we ourselves are already in receipt of Hippo products at our facility in Chimoio we will now check all our documents and advise the relevant Outfitters, if we still require any outstanding documentation.
Once we have gathered all this information, we will be in a position to submit our appeal to all parties concerned who will then evaluate the merits of such an appeal and provide us with their final decision.
Thanking you all in advance for your assistance in this matter and we look forward to your urgent response.
Regards,
