Hello everyone, I will be heading to Zim next year for my first buffalo hunt. For PG I used the PH’s rifle, but for buffalo I’d like to bring my own and have plenty of time to practice with it. New guns in DG calibers seem to be hard to find, so I figured I would ask here if anyone was interested in selling one in their collection. I don’t mind if it’s got some character as long as it’s been well taken care of. I’d also like to know that it will last for quite some time, because something tells me this won’t be my last trip to Africa. I am open to any DG caliber. Thank you all and appreciate you reading this post.

Check out the .375 I linked to in the good deals thread.

How experienced a shooter are you and how often do you train? If you are not already using light for caliber guns, say 5# 308's or 6.5# 350RM's, you might want to get one as a bit of a trainer. You also might want to stick to 375 H&H, if you are not already accustomed to recoil, or able to spend the time necessary to do so. I find that shooting every week is necessary for me to remain able to easily handle magnum recoil, but long before that, I was shooting very lightweight guns in more normal calibers. Onc you get used to it, 375 is very pleasant to shoot and does not cause issues. until you get there though, it might not be much fun to just jump into the deep end, so to speak. Once you can use a 375 easily, 458's become very nice too.

Thank you for the advice! I shoot every few weeks off of sticks - started that to practice for my first trip and kept it up because it’s fun. I usually use a 30-06 or 300 win mag. Happy to stick with the 375 though and again appreciate your thoughts.

If you're anywhere near south-central/southeast PA, there's a CZ .458 Lott coming up for auction next weekend I can point you towards.

That sounds good. You might also practice offhand and weapons manipulations at speed a bit. Most hunters I have seen really can't handle their guns very well in general, let alone fast and accurately. I wouldn't give this advice normally, and don't mean to assume anything about you, I just haven't seen a WTB ad quite like yours. Sounds like you are all set though, enjoy the bigger guns!

I have a like new Kimber Caprivi in 416 Rem. mag. that I might sell. Probably in the $3,000ish price range. I have the box and it is in 99% condition.

If you want one caliber for both PG and DG it’s hard to beat the 375. Why use your PH rifle for PG when your 375 will handle it and perfect for Buffalo as well

Here you are....with this you will be sorted and I should imagine very happy... :A Thumbs Up:

Any of these are a good place to start and have impeccable reputations.

@Cam300
When you have decided caliber, brand, and other details PM me and I might have one for you.I am thinning my collection. I like to see you get what you want than what is out there. First make sure what your budget going to be. If you are a hand loader then look for the availability, cost , of components and ammo. Right now primer are hard to get.

Good advice. Many of us may have guns we could help with, but it would be good for you to narrow it down first. Regardless of what you want, if it’s a DG rifle, someone on here can help. Just decide what you want.

I have this one for sale if you are into the weatherby flavors.

I was just thinking about that rifle.

She would make him a good one. Its definitely a working rifle and not a show piece but it is accurate and very versatile. 300 grain bullets up to 600 grain bullet. 458 win mag level up to all the power you could need.

FYI, I have a mint tang safety Ruger .458 that appears to be unfired. The older Rugers were built right. You can load some light loads for practice and get used to the recoil and then go full bore for a hunting load.
