Just Ordered My First Medium Bore Rifle

Congratulations! My M70 loves IMR4350 in the 300gr pills btw. If you find yourself in Phoenix this week, there's a fair amount of it at Bruno's Shooters Supply that he is currently only selling to walk-ins. Got two more lbs yesterday.

You will not regret it. Easy firing rifle, the Winchester Safari Express. Mine is great!
Welcome to the King of Rifles Club. You made the best possible choice.

That will be a great setup. I missed out on several M70s on GunBroker before winning the bid on my Ruger Safari Magnum. You can't go wrong with a classic rifle in a legendary caliber.
I had a hard time getting the Barnes or Swift bullets I wanted in advance of my Namibian hunt but found my rifle loved the 300gr Norma Oryx. It performed excellent on plains game from Springbok to Eland.

Thanks for the powder suggestion. Unfortunately (really I should say fortunately) I’ll be hunting javelina this weekend. I haven’t been to that shop before, or any other reloading supply store in Phoenix, so I will need to find a way to check it out soon. If you have any other suggestions for the area that I would want to add into the trip would be welcomed.

Thanks for the bullet suggestion/experience. Having options outside of the normal recommendations in these poorly stocked days.

Next try it out on an elk hunt…. Might try OTC tags for up by Holbrook.

I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve got some shooting to do with it before I’ll be ready to take it to the field. Range time isn’t the easiest for me to come by, but it’s easier than bullets

I know you already purchased a rifle, however as an added to a trip to Phoenix, I would suggest a stop at William Larkin Moore. They are an upscale gun shop in Scottsdale, AZ. I was in Phoenix over the New Year and stopped in; it really was a highlight for our trip.

When I was there, the staff was very nice and spent a lot of time answering my questions and letting myself and a buddy handle guns worth more than my truck. We ended up buying some hats to cover their time, again they were very good to us. I highly recommend checking them out.

WLM is a stop I would also recommend. I have left a few $$$$ with them on several purchases.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check them out, with enough money to also buy a hat. Lol

That's a nice rifle and cartridge. Extremely well mannered considering what it's capable of.

I often think I should have got another .375H&H instead of my .416 Rigby that I have now. I could fire my old Brno .375 over and over from any position, no fuss. My Rigby... I haven't had the nerve to shoot it prone yet and I'm certain it wouldn't be happening over and over again if I did!

Maybe in time you can work up and get a bigger one, but will you need to? Probably not! You're set for life for any species on the planet with what you've just bought, unless gun lust gets the better of you!

For about a year I looked for Win M70 LEFT HANDED Safari Classic in .375 H&H. Finally found one - NIB and unfired at resale. Very nice rifle, but the stock was a bit bulky and did not fit me. A re-stock is in progress and it is going to TZ with me in the fall. I have one in 7X57 also and they are nice rifles.

I agree. Though sometimes another firearm just begs to be purchased. For now, I’ll be quite content and pleased with this latest purchase and try to get in some extra trigger time as I can.

The .375 H&H works well on Elk,
I’ve been skunked on drawing a tag the last few years. I’m working on load development for my 300WM for some long range capabilities. Given the area I’m likely to hunt will more than likely present shots over 300 yards, I’m not sure I’ll want to be carrying the 375. But I sure do know it will be sufficient to kill an elk. And some day I may take it just so it can take one. But for now my frustration with not being drawn will mean I will pull all the stops once I do get drawn so I don’t walk away empty handed.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!
