@Bonk I like the Cross Bolt safety on newer Marlin lever actions even though I agree it’s Unnecessary when hunting or shooting…. BUT, I like it ONLY for the times I am UNloading - there’s No chance of the trigger coming down on a live round while you are emptying the gun. I know all the safety rules and how to safely unload lever guns but always felt that is the one time the risk of mistakenly firing a live round increases….the Cross Bolt is a “nice to have” when Unloading. When Hunting my cross bolt safety is always Off and hammer is down in “half cock” position - I fully cock hammer Only when ready to fire.I’ve owned JM Marlins, Remington Marlins and now a Ruger Marlin. I prefer the Ruger over the other two. The JMs weren’t anything special and the Remingtons weren’t as bad as their reputation. The new Ruger Marlins are really nice rifles IMO. The fit and finish are excellent for a production gun and my 1894 44Mag is a terrific little carbine. The only knock on it is the crossbolt safety. It works fine but it’s completely unnecessary.
