BSA also made a good business for a while rebarrelling and dolling up old P14 and 1917 actions. I remember them from my days as a gun store clerk in high school. Beautiful dark glossy bluing, lustrous Weatherby-ish wood finish, rosewood tips, etc. Usually in generic calibers like 30-96 and 270. They were listed for a good price but we couldn't give them away it seemed. In those days military surplus rifles were everywhere. Back then it was more stylish to buy new junk from Winchester or Remington with hideous stamped checkering and push feed actions. Kinda like today everyone has to own "modern sporting rifle" (aka AR style). Sporterized military classic controlled feed are still barely competitive with low end new bolt guns. Those guns in military configuration that could be bought for spare change in the 70s now go for ridiculous prices. Go figure.

Interesting what they did to the P14 dogleg bolt handle. Apparently the top half was retained and either the bottom half was radically reforged or cut off and replaced with something else. Does yours have a hollow knob?

It does have a hollow knob. I would much rather own one of these old beauties than the rifles coming off the line by bergara, winchester or even weatherby today. They were built by a craftsman not a machine

So that would be the military knob with military base of bolt handle (attached at the bolt) and modified stem in between. Very nice how they finished it. May be a pattern I can borrow when I build my P14 project.

Definitely a P14/M17 Enfield action. The proof marks look like it was proofed in England for sale in that country.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
