Just a customary introduction post.

I live in the outskirts of Melbourne and have done for a few years since moving from Scotland.

I have a .308 here and have done one Africa trip since moving. Previously three Africa trips when based in Scotland, where I have left a .375 and a 500NE. They will make it over one day soon.

I'm hoping to visit Africa every two years from now on - trying to work out whether I prefer the long range stuff or the big rifles!

I did have some advice for anyone flying to Africa with rifles from Melbourne. You do need to make an appointment with customs house a few weeks before your flight to get the paperwork sorted. If you turn up to Melbourne airport without having done so Border Force may help, but it is time consuming. There is almost no documentation about the correct procedure online. Also, don't try to leave on a 6AM flight from Melbourne as I did. The check-in doesn't start working until 4AM and it doesn't leave enough time. I ended up trading a days hunting for a day in the pub in Sydney. I was flying Melbourne -> Sydney -> Joburg -> PE and next time I will just fly Melbourne -> Sydney as a single domestic leg with domestic firearms clearance (which is easy) then do all the international stuff in Sydney.

Welcome to AH piggywiggy. There are quite a few members on here who have done their African safari with a double rifle only and bagged many species. So maybe there is a way to have your big and perhaps medium range plans in one rifle.

:S Welcome:

@piggywiggy308
Welcome mate from the Central Coast of NSW. Sorry you live south of the border down Mexico way but hey someone has to.
We're a great bunch on this forum, full of information and some of us just full of it.
Bob

Welcome welcome welcome

Welcome @piggywiggy308. Yeah Border Force does not like unannounced visits. They got crook at me in Sydney last year. I am flying Qatar Melb to Windhoek via Doha in July. ABF has a new RGP form by the way. I posted details. I enjoy fox shooting on our family’s farm with a .223 :-)

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
