Hello from Alaska

I don't know if I'll ever get to Africa to hunt but I sure like dreaming about it.
The dream is the start and AH is here to help you make that dream come true. Enjoy

Hi Marty, welcome to AH !

Welcome Marty! Don't be shy around here. Ask lots of questions and make some new friends. Enjoy!

Dear Marty

If you can dream it, you can do it - with our affordable and economical packages.

Hello Marty! I live in Wasilla as well. Stop by the shop sometime if you'd like to chat about hunting. My Wife and I own Screaming Eagle Archery, we're on the hill behind Harley Davidson.

Welcome aboard Marty. It sounds like you are going to fit right in. What caliber rifles do you own? Do you reload?

Just noticed your location. Do you know or have you met Sarah Palen? (sp)

Shootist43,

Thanks. I do know Sarah, though only in passing. I used to buy raffle tickets from her when she was a hockey booster mom.

I'm kind of an eclectic shooter with few standard chamberings. A few of my favorites are the 256 Mannlicher, the grand 300 H&H, 8x56 MS, 35 Whelen, 9.3x57, 10.75x57 and my all time favorite big game round, the 400 Whelen. Even in handguns I'm a little out there, liking the 41 Mag, 45 colt and 401 Herters Powermag over some of the more popular choices. My varmint guns are not so odd but not common either; the 17 Remington, 222 Remington and the fine little wildcat 6mmx222.

That's my 400 Whelen in the avatar. It makes caribou and moose surrender nicely.

Welcome to AH. There's more than a few Alaskan's on here. I'm outta Anchorage.

Hi Marty Weatherup of Screaming Eagle Archery,

Welcome to the best forum in the world.

If you get down to Anchorage and anticipate some spare time to kill, pm me with a little lead time and I will buy the coffee.
If not, perhaps I will get out to the valley one of these days.
If so, I'll stop by your shop to say howdy.

Cheerio,
Velo Dog

Anchorage.

Paul,

Chris (Bowdup) is the one with Screamin Eagle Archery. We've met at the Wasilla Gun Show before.

Oopsie, guess I'm getting too senile to multi task any more.
Thanks for the clarification.
I shall look forward to meeting Chris/Bowdup at his shop one day and to catching up with you again then, somewhere further down the trail one of these times.

If either one of you are driving by, stop in for a coffee and some chatter. I'd enjoy hearing your hunting stories sometime.

Chris

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
