Hello and here we go...

So I have been trolling AH now for several months and figured its time to say "Hey". I really like the site and have been finding lots of good conversation and info.

I have never hunted in Africa but planning my first trip(s) as fast as I can. The plan is that I am going with the family in 2018 for my 50th bday, assuming I am still around but... I can't wait that long. SOOO I am going to plan on a SA hunt with my son in 2016 with the priority on taking a good Kudu and gaining experience. Haven't decided on an outfitter or even particular area but ready to get on nailing it down.

I live in Alaska and hunt and fish all the time (ok as much as I can) around work and the family. I had a really awesome Wyoming antelope hunt last year with my dad and I am ready to start spreading my wings and hunting outside AK soooo "here we go".... Or maybe it should be "South Africa Here We Come"

Welcome to AH Mekaniks! May I suggest if you can, try to make it to either the DSC or SCI conventions in January / February respectively. Also as you start narrowing a list of outfitters down that you're considering, bring that list to AH and get input from the members here about them. There are way too many good outfitters out there to wind up getting stuck with a bad one. Let AH do what it does best and be that source of experience for you to lean on.

There are some top-flight Safari Companies and Proper PHs advertising here.
You cannot go wrong looking for the right one in this forum.
Have a good look here and some good email or phone conversations with them before deciding.
If you begin to settle on one, then correspond with their references thoroughly prior to booking.
That formula always works.

However, if for some reason you cannot find what you are looking for here, let me know.
The PH I have hunted with more than any others so far, visits Anchorage in either Jan or Fed each year, for a week or two.
I would be happy to introduce you when he is in town.

I also looked for awhile before joining in conversations. Wasn't that good at loading pictures and such so I sort of stayed in the back ground. I've got the same hunting bug you have.....now I'm hooked on going to Africa and hunting. I cannot wait to go again. It will most likely be 2016 before I can make another trip. I've been twice now and both times I have used African Sky Hunting Safaris out of Pretoria South Africa. They did a great job for me both hunts. I'm holding up my Cape Buffalo horns in the picture by my name from my April hunt of this year. There are no doubt good outfitters on this site and I've seen some good prices here as well. Check out the outfitter sites then correspond with them via email. When you decide what you want to hunt and when that's when it gets serious for real. Let me know if I can be of any help along the way. I found its nice to have someone here in the states to talk with that's been over there.
