This is my first MDT chassis. I like it very much, but I am still fine-tuning the set up. The rifle weighs in excess of 16 pounds, and the bull barrel is 24" which is nuts for a .22. But it is so accurate. Aside from the fun of shooting competitions, I love that I get to keep shooting and be outside even though hunting season is over.

I have Magento and like it, though I never could get over having something hanging from the barrel. I just got the Xero 2.0 and find it superior in every way - features, usability, data collection. I think you will find the Xero to be a step up.

I don’t go anywhere without my Garmin Xero. I really appreciate the Garmin engineering. Glad I spent the money for it!

I did a reportage as a journalist a few years ago for MDT in Eastern Europe for a magazine dealing with weapons. They are excellent, I even agreed to be the general representative for the Balkans. I'm still considering that option

I want by 416 barrel. Assune the recoil is similar

It's not. The 416RM barrel is a 22mm Selous profile, and that's not optional if you go with a Blaser factory barrel. The 375H&H I'm shooting has a 17mm standard profile barrel. It all depends how you set yours up. My 416RM was as heavy as I could get it, where the 375H&H is as light as I can get it.

The 416RM weighed over 13 lbs with the scope, sling and 4 cartridges. It had the steel receiver, steel trigger group and kickstop that come with the PH model. To carry this rifle in the field was more like dragging a club than toting sporting arm. I decided for the number of times I'm likely to hunt DG, I'll do so with a 375H&H that's easy to carry and shoot.

EDIT - I hesitated at loading a third cartridge because the first one knocked one of the chains off the steel target. The second shot, I hit the swinging target and knocked the other chain off. If you slow down the video, you can see how close I come to getting scoped. I never did, but it was always a concern. Also taking into consideration that I'm recovering from arthroscopic shoulder surgery, a .400+ cartridge is not likely in my future.

Serious recoil. When there is a stressful situation and you have to shoot quickly... It can easily happen that the optic breaks the eye

Our club has a long range for rifles that goes to 1000yd, some steel hung at every 100yd berm to 700 and then a few more before the large and small gongs on a mound at 1000. We have multiple short bays for handguns and rifle use, most to 60yd and a couple to 110, four have shooting houses with wood stoves for use in the winter…also helpful to escape the skeeters. Same for a tactical range with shooting house that goes to 250 yards, one larger steel at 200.

The last year I’ve spent more time on the shorter bays playing with various double rifles, with occasional stops by the main rifle range to check hits at 200 and 300, or playing with a long range or sheep rifle.

First three shots through my Rigby, iron sights before the scope arrived.

Then a group with factory federal ammo once scoped and a drill I did that was fun but not ideal for any particular scenario. The target with four holes is with factory Barnes, cold bore shot scoped, then scope off, onto sticks for three follow ups with iron sights.

Final photo is typical group with factory Barnes from the rifle and 5-shot string velocity data.

I finally got around to finishing off the zeroing of my Chapuis UGEX in 9.3 x 74 R. Range is about an hour’s drive from home. I probably go there at least weekly. One of the benefits of being a retired Boomer.

The range goes out to 300 yards. But I only shot the double at 25 meters.

The right barrel is spot on….

And the left barrel is close enough for me.
