Hi there, newby on the forum

Been reading quite a lot and I realized that there are many experienced and knowledge people. For the last weeks I was really enjoing reading and learning from you, so
If is not a problem or to boring to answer I would like to now your opinions, pros ans cons about next options as 1º DG rifle

* WICHESTER 70 PRE 64
* WINCHESTER 70 POST 64
* REMINGTON 700
* SAKO
* CZ/BRNO (only see this one in 416 Rigby)

Keep in mind I live in Europe, so no many "custom" options and of course budget is king, that is why 416 Rem Mag is the way to go. Not a reloader, just comercial ammo user

Gracias y un saludo!!

I'd probably rule out the Rem 700 for use specifically as a DG rifle (although plenty of people have used them successfully in the past)..

I dont think you can go wrong with any of your other choices.. between the CZ, Winchesters, and Sako I think its mostly a matter of preference(s)...

All are known to be reliable, well made, etc. and all have a proven track record in Africa on DG hunts..

Go for a new Model 70 Safari Express in 375 H&H. It should be the easiest for you to find in Europe and it's a great DG rifle that you can also use to hunt plains game. A great one-gun safari rifle.
I own a 338 Wm so the 375 is out of equation, I def want more punch

Love my Winchester M70 in 416 RM! Mine is post 64 and is the one rifle I would NEVER sell! I have competed in and nearly won a handful of large bore competitions with this rifle.

If you get into reloading, the 300gr TSX is probably one of the best bullets for this cartridge.

For a factory 416 Remington, I like the New Haven made Classic post-64 for a cost effective rifle. I have not had issues with the ones that I have owned.

A pre-64 would have to be a re-barrel / custom to be chambered in 416 Remington.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
