Designed this on a sketch pad and brought it to life with quite a few hours in the shop when I had a spare minute. With two young kids it’s been a process, but I’m happy results.

Top and emblem are made out of 3/16” mild steel. Used 2” square tubing for the uprights, 1.5” angle for top and bottom supports. Africa emblem were created with a template and steady hand with a plasma cutter. Legs are threaded with felt lining on the bottom to adjust leveling and protect flooring. Welded all thread to the emblem and drilled through front face to bolt it on. I modified a skullmaxx mount to base of skull and moved it forward a bit. Fabricated a mount, redrilled and tapped skullmaxx attachment to account for a larger bolt since I knew it would require a bit more torque. All metal on the pedestal portion was powder coated which is the only part of the project that I outsourced. Cut boards to size, stained, and top coated. I didn’t want the appearance of attaching them with bolts so I used professional construction adhesive. Measures 3’ tall, 18” wide with 2” overhang at the top.

Very nice! Well done :D Beers:

Sweet!

Outstanding!

I never thought of using diamond plate but that’s creative. Well done.

Fantastic job!!

Nice work!!

I'm intrigued.

Questions:

Is it 18" square or is it deeper?

Could shelving be placed inside and a "hidden door" be fabricated into your design?

Thanks! Yes 18” square and yes, absolutely could incorporate door with shelving. Quite a bit of interior space for hunting accoutrement. You could make it as large as needed. I actually plan on making another a bit smaller for either my sable or kudu.

Curious....

Why...or that is...Smaller for a Kudu or Sable?

Are you only doing skull with horns; aka Euro mounts?

I'm thinking 3' height would put a kudu or sable mount at eye level and the base to be a bit wider and deeper for balance. But then again, I'm looking at various styles and types of floor pedestals for: some full body mounts, ie porcupine, jackal, mongoose, etc., and large, ie gemsbuck, waterbuck, lechwe, mounts and multiple small and medium PG shoulder, half body, and wall pedestal mounts so I can open up/de clutter wall space for the larger PG, ie eland, and DG, ie buff and hippo, shoulder and wall pedestal mounts.

Yes, I just do euro mounts. Never really cared for full shoulder mounts and it's much cheaper. I definitely overbuilt this one and it is plenty steady. I was concerned about my kid pulling it over so it is very heavy, probably 85lbs+. Tubing is 11ga for reference.

The nice part about fabricating your own is you're only limited by your imagination. In your case, I'd probably build it octagonal or rectangular for more space and stability depending on how much available room you have.

For my kudu or sable, I'll probably build it 12" or so wide on the pedestal portion with a wider base out of 3/16" steel. If I made it the same size as the buff, it would look a bit lopsided IMO. I may even get more creative and do a trapezoid shape which would take a bit more brain power getting angles correct and whatnot.

Beautiful!

Thanks for the info. I had intended to ask about the weight of your pedestal and if you added additional weight to keep it from turning over.

I have not posted any items for sale on this forum and will not every put anything for sale. My account was hacked and I've worked with the admin to get things shut down.

My apologies for any grief that I may have caused you. I now have a pit in my stomach and I'm really pissed off and embarrassed. I feel that I have been made a fool of.

Please accept my apology.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
