Hello all, and especially to the outfitters out there. As the title states, I am looking for a Buffalo experience, and will most likely choose an outfitter from one of the many wonderful outfits located in South Africa. However, my wife and I like to travel, and the way we operate is that I go to Africa first, do my hunt, then my wife joins me for the sightseeing portion of our trip. This has worked out very well for us in the past, as we both get to take something out of the trip. This time around, she/we have our heart set on a Tanzanian adventure for the post hunt portion of our trip. Logistically, hunting Buffalo in S.A. then travelling up to Tanzania, then returning down to S.A. for my rifle, and then home is getting a bit much. I really do want to hunt with my own rifle, as I have been putting it together, working up loads, and practicing with it for the last 18 months already. South Africa is where I am comfortable budget wise for the hunt, but logistically I would like to explore options for Tanzania. I fully realize why hunting in Tanzania costs more, and I am not looking to get something for nothing, as I believe that people should get paid for their time and hard work. Ultimately, I am looking for possible options in Tanzania for a more budget friendly Buffalo, and was looking for input as to where I should begin looking. If the right fit came along, I could certainly look at stretching my budget somewhat. I would like to book something for September of 2025, or thereabouts.
Thanks.

@DmacD: When I hunted Buff in TZ 15+ years ago - the hunt was good but later travel into Dar es Salaam was Not good…..not a safe place. Our PH recommended that we do Not travel anywhere in that City without him or one of his Guides. We had no trouble but most areas we visited appeared “rough” and I would not have traveled there alone. That’s very old information but it’s something that you might want to look into.

Thanks for the reply, HankBuck.
We have been looking at a guided tour with a tour company for just that reason.

I'm not an outfitter but my advice would be to go to Mozambique or Zimbabwe. Cost is not that much different than SA buffalo and its a true wild country safari. Maybe you've already been to these places? That being said, if your hearts are set on Tanzania, don't let a few thousand bucks stop you, make it happen. I've always thought it would be great to hunt there as well, and Botswana too.....but some things are just out of reach for us mere mortals.

Thanks, I will most definitely be hiring the services of one of the rifle handlers if we decide on S.A. Part of my reason for asking about Tanzania was to maybe avoid the back and forth air travel to S.A. and the costs associated with it. If just going simply to Tanzania, this would eliminate those costs, and I could apply them to the cost of the Buffalo hunt.

Do a multiple Buffalo hunt and per bull it will be cheaper, sounds logical to me!

Instead of a South Africa and Tanzania combo maybe consider an own use/non-exportable buffalo in Caprivi price would be under $10k. Plenty of tourist activities and national parks in Caprivi after your hunt.

Sounds sensible to me, however, we have been to Namibia, Botswana, S.A. and Zimbabwe as tourists before, and my wife has this strange idea that she wants to see something new! I would be very happy with a Caprivi strip Buff, but I am only half of the equation.

You can get s free range hunt in Zimbabwe Gor not a lot more money. The idea of shooting a buffalo with an ear tag leaves me cold. Even without the ear tag, I'm still not keen on the idea of high fences.

I would recommend Travel Express for figuring out the logistics of touring, rifle and ammo security in Jo'burg, hotels and travel. They did great for my wife and I when we did very much what you are saying what you want.

Tsnzania I can certainly help, both your buffalo experience as well as the touring side, don’t think you’ll like the budged part, but let’s try. Please feel free to email me . Info@spearsafaris.com

Good Day Sir

Tsala Safaris would like to invite you to have a look at our areas in South Africa , Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

To travel to most of the countries you would probably need to stop over in SA where you can do your buff hunt then the tourist part from there. We have place to store your rifles and other things not needed.

Our area in Moz offers excellent buffalo and plains game hunting. We can combine that with a trip to the Kruger National Park or other areas in Moz , maybe the Mozambique coastline is a good option from our area. The weather should be good during that time of the year.

Our area in Zim is close to Vic Falls where you would fly in.Combine your buff hunt with a few days in Vic Falls and all that it has to offer , fishing , white water rafting and other activities.

We at Tsala safaris would be with you every step of the way if you decide on any of these above.

I will send more detail in a pm to you.

Regards

Rouan

I would check into Motsomi Safaris and Infinito Safaris. They partner together on their Tanzania hunts which are in southern Tanzania. I’ve hunted with Motsomi in RSA and have looked at doing Tanzania with them. They were offering a Tanzania buff hunt for around $17k it seems so a little more than RSA but not by much. The area they hunt can be reached by commercial flights in Tanzania and then a short drive so no private air charter costs. You could then easily fly back to Dar and do touristy activities in Northern Tanzania like go up to Kilimanjaro, out to Ngorogoro and the Serengeti or Tarangerie NP for great lodges and game drives. Plus these areas in northern Tanzania don’t have Tsetse flies. I’ve not hunted Tanzania but I have been to all of the places I mentioned in northern Tanzania on photo safaris
