Any small bore double rifle men out there..?

As a rule..are they hard to get to regulate..? I am looking at a 1909 Charles Lancaster in 6,5 x 53R..

Do any of you have experience with this round in a double..?

Lower recoiling DR and faster velocity should regulate easier. The right barrel isn’t moving up and right as far and the left barrel up and left as far under recoil. all else being equal.

I have a Purdey 303 DR . Because I reload I was able to work through a range of bullet weight and speed options . Finally landed in a combination where she shoots like a dream .

My experienced is the smaller the bore the more difficult to find a load that regulates. I don’t have gobs of experience but have loaded for right close to 20 doubles in the past 18 years. Smallest I currently own is in a 400/360 Purdey. Took a little time to find the correct powder with proper barrel dwell time.

Smallest I have loaded for was a 7x65R, that one took a lot of range trips.

I’m working on a 8x65R right now. Results so far have been adequate but nothing to write home about. It’s still a work in progress.

I have a Springer 8X57JR and had a Genossenschaft double in 7X65R - both shoot S&B ammunition quite good. The 7X65 especially.
I think in a small bore double, original quality and the amount it's been shot make a big difference.
It's my experience that small bores get shot much more than the DG doubles and have seen plenty with one or the other bore especially worn.
In fact, one Lancaster 303 I was considering had one bore so worn that it could use a .318" bullet while the other was within spec. It was an oval bore so maybe they wear more than a conventionally bored rifle - not sure.
Another double I had was a 350 Rigby with almost as bad bore wear. No way was that one ever going to group.
I suspect that most small bore doubles were (are) used as one would use a single shot - rarely going to the second shot with regularity. That must be why so many have this type of wear.

Yes Sir, RB Rodda 303 British top lever rebounding hammer rifle with 28" barrels, rifle was regulated for 215grs max and 38gr Riflite powder, regulation was an easy dream, 40gr RL-15 under 215gr Woodleigh Weldcores for the right barrel. regulates beautifully at 2162 fps.

Remove expander plug from your size die, FL size new WW or RP 303 British brass, debur inside case mouth, drop in same 40gr charge of RL-15, seat CEB 210gr Copper Safari solid top driving band flush with case mouth, give it a small pinch with Lee FCD.

You now have a solid load for your left barrel small double with some of the straightest and deepest penetrating solids known to all mankind.

I know you didn't ask for all this, just put it out there in case some other 303 British users wanted a solid load for their little doubles, or bolt/single shot rifles, I can tell you any animal turns to run from first hit 215 Woodleigh Weldcore is going to be popped on the butt and receive a tracheotomy via the CEB BBW #13 210gr copper flat nosed solid.

My Chapuis has a set of 7x65R barrels that have proven very difficult to find a regulating load for. Seriously thinking about sending it to JJ to have them reregulated before I drive myself nuts. Either barrel will shoot close to an inch at 100yds, unfortunately, those two groups will be well over a foot apart. Really want to hunt with this cartridge, but currently it's functionally a single shot; a very accurate single shot, with a storage compartment for an extra round, lol.

I have a vc O/U in 8x57JRS. It shoots factory privi excellent, have worked up 200gr accubonds that match privi 196gr softs and solids. Need to get it out on a hunt.
