I will be flying in october and would like to take a scoped rifle and a double shot gun along with me. Unfortunatly my "double" rifle case will not hold both of them.
Any suggestions out there on what to get?

I looked at the pelican vault, are they pretty tough and secure? I may need to take a ride somewhere and see one in person
Plenty tough. I have one and it’s been to Africa 6 times. Still like new, despite the luggage handlers best efforts.

I am a Tuffpak fan. Discreet versatile and durable.
I use Nomar soft cases (inside the tuffpak) because they take up more space in the tuffpak, and they are also an extremely good waterproof soft case when not utilizing the tuffpak.

Another vote for TuffPak. I’ve been using one for almost 20 years. 7 trips to Africa, 10 to Canada, 2 to Alaska and a few out west in the lower 48. Never had a problem with my rifles once I arrived at my destination or when getting back home.

I had a toughpak but found myself using my pelican storm double and my pelican vault double and never really touched the toughpak… so I sold it to another AH member a couple of years back…

I can definitely vouch for its quality… it’s a great system… just not one that worked well for me…

The Pelican case is primo. Handles two guns; one w/scope. I hauled mine across Africa, Europe the US and Canada with no damage to my rifles.

My two rifles travel in a single gun Pelican Vault case with scopes in my carryon backpack. However, I put slip-on recoil pads on both guns to protect against muzzles bumping against adjacent butt stocks. Warne QD rings hold zero when scopes are reattached.

Rifles/shotguns into Murray leather "slips", then load those into a Tuffpac, belt, jackets, sweatshirts, etc to fill in empty spaces and I've never had a problem.

I've carried as many as 3 rifles that way.

Peli cases have been my choice for a number of years. Never had a problem with them. I used to use the big 1720 case but they are cumbersome. Now I separate the action from the stock and reassemble on arrival at destination and use a smaller, more compact Peli case, a 3100 or 3220
The first thing before going hunting is checking your rifles on the range. Any anomalies can be corrected there.

Personally I prefer the Pelican (Protector Series) 1700 case because it's so much easier to get around the airport, but my rifle does takedown to make this easier. BTW - Every rifle can be taken down to fit in a 1700 by removing the barreled action from the stock. I know @One Day... did this with a CZ550 and his double rifle.

And again with a Blaser R8 & double rifle...albeit without the optics.

I you are considering the Pelican Vault line, I just returned from Africa and just about every other hunter was using their double rifle case. It's the V800. It's WICKED big and should fit any two firearms without having to take them apart. It's about $100 USD cheaper and 2 lbs lighter than the Pelican Protector 1750 case that's the same size but offers better protection.

@BeeMaa , Could you provide contact information or URL / Link for the company that made your specially cut foam for your Pelican 1700. Your configuration shown above is a masterful layout for two takedown rifles in a small case.

PS: For me, I prefer the stronger Pelican Protector cases like the 1700 more than their lighter Vault or Air cases. All will do the job until they do not. I'd rather travel with the most protective case.

Pelican Vault. Tons of room for my 300 win mag and shooting sticks or another firearm.

That case (and foam) belong to @One Day...

I have used another company for custom cut foam on a few occasions and they are absolutely wonderful to deal with. It's GunFoam.com and if you need any assistance or tips, please feel free to reach out to me. I also have one of their cases I'll be selling in the not so distant future. It's equivalent in size to a Pelican 1720 Protector case if you are interested.

I have a Pelican 1750 and an old SKB rifle case. I actually like the SKB better. The SKB allows you to put one rifle in, then the foam divider, then the second rifle. I put the rifles in, facing opposite directions from one another. If I am only taking one rifle, I sometime remove the foam divider and place the rifle inside with a soft, padded case.

Another option you might consider, go to a Harbor Freight store if you have one near by. Look at their clone version of a Pelican rifle case. They look pretty good, for half the price of a Pelican.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
