Hi Everyone,
Really enjoying the forum! I have an NIB version of the rifle mentioned above and before taking a shot through it is there anything I should do about making it stronger and more reliable. I read somewhere that they could benefit by having some work done to improve the bedding and I'm not a big fan of the thumb safety. Being its an new old stock I figured why not invest a little money and it must have things worked out by now amongst the owners across the globe after all these years. I live in SE Idaho up against the Montana border. I do hope to one day make it to Africa I'm sure like many here. Any advice on the above and of course a good, recommended gunsmith to do the work who is familiar with these rifles would be greatly appreciated! TY Bill I'll try to pull it out of the safe tomorrow and get some pics up. Its stocked with a beautiful piece of wood.

Cycle the bolt (dry) 1000x, wiping off the residue every 100. I’m doing that now with a DG rifle and it’s so much smoother at 600. Afterwards, if it’s not to your liking, then a more aggressive plan may be in order. If rounds cycle and fire, all is well. If not, then call in a smith. Find a load it likes and go hunting!

Parkwest is selling 3-position Model 70 style safeties on eBay for $229 blued. The 404 I built on military Czech 98 Mauser action has one. Someone will need to fill the slot for trigger safety. Easy to do with colored epoxy. The safety is part of trigger unit so you'll have to change triggers. I suggest Timney standard trigger (their "deluxe" model has trigger block safety attached). Timney standard runs about $85 on eBay. You can order the dye online. I would suggest 3-9x scope because you may want to use your 375 rifle for plains game as well as buffalo. Many do. Quick detach scope rings with a good set of iron sights is a nice option. Keep the wood for weight. Synthetic is not very glamorous and its lighter weight = more recoil.

Get various bullet shapes and make up some dummy rounds with them. A flat nose solid is usually to trouble causer. Make sure they feed 100%. You can bed the rifle and put some threaded rod through the wrist of the stock if you like. I have a CZ with factory crossbolts. I bedded the 2 recoil lugs and worked on feeding.whitworthsnare pretty solid, I guess a little stock reinforcement won't go wrong but don't worry too much

Shoot it before you bed it. It might be best as it is.

There are various safeties, a low-profile swing safety like on FNs and JC Higgins (FN action) are nice, so are 2- or 3-position Mod 70-type safeties.

Interarms mk10 with the thumb safety in 458 wind bag, when I built this a few people bagged that safety, but I fitted it anyway and it works fine. I modified it so it only locks the trigger, not the bolt and is easy to use. I make more noise stumbling around than the safety does when I disengage it

My Whitworths have always been shooters and not picky with ammo. One didn't want to feed the third round and I had to get that sorted out, but otherwise trouble free and are very accurate.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
