Provided it groups them well I may just have to test them on a whitetail doe up in Montana. Not much for mid sized game that can be chased year round close by unfortunately.

You’ll be delighted. I like the 185gr bullets as well. Shot placement makes a difference. Wait until you get a chance to cycle the action while shooting. Those original Mausers rebuilt and fantastic. I’ve got two BRNO 98’s being rebuilt into a .270 and 9.3x62 as we speak. It’ll probably be an other year before it’s all said and done. Luckily yours already has the three position safety!

Our gun show circuit is fairly good in my area. A lot of very nice/unusual pieces but a tendency to be drastically over priced. Good deals rarely last and debating has cost me two rifles in the last two years so I didn't hesitate when I found this one. Needless to say I am excited to try this out.

My wife is taking a 270win as her rifle when we go to Africa. It has never been my favorite cartridge but my wife, grandfather, and great grandfather have all used it with a great deal of success. It will be interesting to see how it performs next to the 9.3 on PG!

I think I can relate. The one really nice Mauser that I found at a gun show was priced higher than I expected so, I walked away. Then the next morning, I decided that I wanted to buy it and returned to the gun show only to find that the seller had packed up and went home early. !@#$%

While I am not a member of the "Jack O'Connor 270 is the best cartridge ever fan club", I will say that in 20yrs of hunting with mine, on deer sized game, I only had to shoot twice on a deer one time. We live in the Eastern woods where shots are rarely over 100y but it hammered them for me. My PH in Africa had no issues with using a 270 for PG. I once took a 7mm/08 which is almost the ballistic equivalent of the 270 to Africa, I did have issues with a few of the shots but every animal, I engaged with it went into the salt. Federal has some nice premium ammo out right now for the 270 that is loaded with the Swift Scirocco II bullet in 130g. I would not hesitate to use that on about any PG I might encounter.

As far as performing next to the 9.3? lol- You are going to love the 9.3. My only advice is that if you are hunting PG and not DG, be sure to select bullets that are designed for light skinned game that will readily expand on impact and hold together well. You will find it to be like Thor's Hammer. Also, similar to the 375, the 9.3 is a 366 cal bullet that is traveling at modest speeds in the 2400-2750 fps range depending on the loads and it does not have great BC's. So, be sure to use it correctly at conservative distances where the impact velocity is fast enough to insure good expansion. This is practice is good with any cartridge but more important with these and the other larger boomers. A typical 250g or 300g 375 tends to run out of ooomph at about 300y. I have a 235g load for my 375 that has a muzzle velocity of over 3000fps but even it is outta gas by about 350y.

If for some reason the 9.3 cannot group well for you, then reach out to me. I would be happy to give it a new home.

I have not played with it a ton but it seems to feed very well. I believe it holds four down in the magazine though I have only filled it and cycled it fully once. I am hoping to get some time to shoot it Thursday or Friday and planning to post more details as I learn the rifle better.
