Where do you all get the cardboard boxes that the hard case can fit into?

I order these from Amazon or eBay - comes with a box & a case to ship.

My FFL offers the cardboard box as part of the shipping service. I assume he makes them.

I also make them out of recycled cardboard and packaging tape…

I take mine to the LGS and have them ship it. It goes FFL to FFL with no problems.

I don’t use a hard case. I wrap the gun in about 3 inches of large bubble wrap the surround that with paper and packing peanuts.

I bought a cardboard shipping box from my local UPS store for $10. The box was 48" long which is the max length you can ship without paying extra charges for an oversize package.

U-line is where I buy gun boxes. You can also google the topic.
Don't scrimp on the boxes, damage is the new norm for poor packaging.

Just me...I have always had to have a custom box made for any of my gun shipments. I go to a Federal Express shop that makes custom boxes WITH ONLY THE CASE NOT GUN INSIDE, it will usually freak them out if the gun is inside. I get the box, place the gun inside and ship at USPS. I have been fortunate to never have a problem with this way. I gave up on UPS a while ago.

Brownell sells an inner and outer gun box in a 5 pack. Still have to pad the inside.

Two ways to play this out.

1.) Get boxes out of a dumpster and clad the hard case in cardboard. I like to use the cellophane wrap from amazon to mummify the exterior cardboard. I use Fedex ground with pickup, requiring over 18 and adult signature required to comply with shipping rules thereafter.

2.) Or you go to a major sporting goods store and buy a new hardcase like a doskocil <sp?> on sale for around $30 and it comes with a box. I cut the box apart, reverse it so there is no writing on it, and then put it back together thereby shipping it in its original box that fits well.

Whenever possible, NEVER ship an optic on a rifle. Never ship a shotgun or double rifle assembled. When possible remove the stock from a bolt gun. Any weapon shipped full-length and assembled is likely to be damaged by leverage and mechanical advantage in shipping. Making them as short as possible makes them far more resistant to damage.

I did impecabble shipping of a double rifle this year in cardboard gun boxes. I used two spanish shotgun gun boxes to ship a double rifle stocked action, two barrel/forend sets, and a QD scope with rings. It was perfect. I took pictures of my 2 hour packing job at every step of the way. I insured the hell out of it.

Nonetheless, a forend was smooshed from mishandling (compressed checkering). I'm not sure I would use a cardboard gun box in the future, even a perfect one designed specifically for that purpose and packed with the reverence of a $45k rifle that it had inside.

I think I would order a new pelican-like case mail order to get the case and the cardboard outer. I would reverse the cardboard to make it less obvious of the contents, and I would take the weapon apart to shorten its length.

I've had too many insurance claims due to baggage apes over the years, I become more and more cautious from life experience.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
