That you asked this question tells me you don't understand how the Military Chain of Command works, nor the decision making process.

Trump, or any President for that matter, is not operating on "his" strategic abilities. He has dozens of Generals and Admirals advising him, as well as high ranking civilians that give input based on the current political situation. They all present Political, Strategic and Tactical plans based on the most up to date information available.

To be clear, the President doesn't beat his senior Officer's and Advisors into line with what he wants. Quite the opposite, they present a variety of possible plans and scenarios to help the President choose the path he will take, and then execute that plan.

Mattis may disagree with the path that these other Officers have suggested, but to act as if Trump is acting on his own Strategic Abilities v those of Mattis tells me you refuse to do your homework, again.

Brent I agree with you on a lot of BBC stuff...but there are some of the older longtime journalists there that give good facts and opinions...as I said they have longtime experience of the countries and the players there....so occasionally try reading some of the things I post ...maybe you will learn something...maybe it will make you think a little bit ....Nice to know you think I am stupid for reading and posting some of the stuff from BBC...but your confusing me with someone that gives a fk...open your mind and reading capabilities....you might learn something....and try reading some of the research and fact finding they do on some of the atrocities that have been committed by certain factions, even ones claiming to be the countries military or the rebel forces...quite interesting and informative.... :D Beers:

I’m not sure if you’re even following Trump’s policies and his statements.
Trump is waging a war he never intended to fight at this way(14 days), and the situation is spiraling dramatically out of his control. He threatens countries like Canada and Europe with annexation, and yet suddenly expects them to be allies who will help him with his unilateral actions and delusions of omnipotence. No way. From the very beginning, he has plunged the world and administrations into crises. He threatens to withdraw from NATO; Hmmmmm..... Because no one here believes that Trump would really help us if things went south. Friends mean nothing to him, treaties mean nothing to him, and allies are only worth something if they kowtow to him. He insults heads of state and their countries. He recently claimed in public about the Saudi Crown Prince that “he would kiss his ass.”
If you think a ground offensive in Iran with the ridiculous 20,000 troops now being discussed can accomplish anything, you know nothing about Persians. Here, the media is already debating which wars the U.S. has actually won in the last 80 years:
Korea—after three years of bloody casualties—withdrawal;
Vietnam—amidst enormous casualties—withdrawal;
The Iraq War with Saddam: G.W. Bush was duped by Cheney, Wolfowitz, and Rumsfeld; withdrawal left chaos in its wake, and ISIS rose from the ashes there.
Afghanistan: 20 years of deployment, sacrifices, and withdrawal—today, the Taliban are in power there.
Correct me if I'm wrong; I'm always happy to learn.

I think you are confusing the Commander in Chief with general staff. Trump sets the mission parameters. The strategies to fulfill the mission is left to the commanders in the field. And Mattis is contradicted by the current staff. I am positive Mattis would have also been negative about the Madura raid.

I know nothing about military stuff...but I would say unfortunately the militaries were stuck with too many rules of engagement and so hobbled as to what they could do....if they had been able to use Israeli doctrine and unleash everything I have a feeling things might have been a bit different .....but too many bleeding heart politicians ..media...etc etc etc

As far as the BBC as it relates to Trump and the Republican party in general , at times they are biased and misleading, as many of the left leaning media outlets can be. I have little trust in what they have to say.
My comment was pointed at Pondoro, who seems to take anything he's sees on those media outlets as gospel and absolute fact, especially when it gives him some type of ammunition to criticize Trump , the USA, and by proxy, my political affiliation and support.
The BBC has shown many times that it is not always an accurate source of truthful information, but often times spoon feeding people what it wants everyone to think and feel. Just like CNN and other leftist media sources do in the states.

Didn’t Trump want to end the Afghanistan war.

Isn’t Mattis the general who resigned rather than start drawing down troops to end the 17 year long Afghanistan war.

Any time you have a 17 year long war don’t you have to question the strategy and opinions of the experts that have kept you there that long.
